Now we are having Smart Tachographs

Johneboy:
Basically he does a local load or two a night and then loads multiple trucks/ trailers for the rest of the night. Driving onto weighbridge, weighing himself in, driving into shed, loading himself, back onto weighbridge etc etc, means he does less than 30 secs driving per minute so it isn’t recorded as driving on a tacho. Because of this he leaves his card in the truck he did his deliveries in and drives the others without a card. I think all would agree it’s a bit of a ball ache to insert it in and eject it from every truck but would it cause problems for day drivers if the lack of card was picked up and they would end up continuously getting pulled?

A lot of lorries are legally moved without a card while at base and the DVSA know this.

I imagine they’ll be looking for vehicles currently running without a card, I’m not sure if they will be able to tell how long a vehicle was run without a card before the current shift started.
