Zip merging

Carryfast:
If I’d read it right ROG’s comments were a contradiction in both recognising the easier and faster merging done further out.But then also supporting the zip merging idea done close to the obstruction in the event of a tail back.

When it’s clear that it’s those who want to leave the merging process until the final few metres that are the ‘cause’ of the tail back to start with.In which case adding to that won’t help.

I disagree. In flowing traffic it’s better to merge further out. No to mention safer for the poor sods working just the other side of the cones.

But, once a tailback ensues it’s pretty much there to stay until the traffic eases so the plan of attack changes. I’ll stay in whatever lane is flowing fastest.

At night if you get the M6 down to 1 lane, near Spaghetti for example, you’re guaranteed a good queue will build up until around midnight (some times later). The closer to the cones you get the more people get over. I just sail down the in/outside and merge as close to the cones as possible. You snooze you lose. Never been pipped or abused. Not once.

I obey Red Xs if they’re there though but they’re often not.

As I said it’s the logic of merging closer to the cones which actually ‘causes’ and then just adds to the tail back.If everyone merges further out the merging is done at higher speeds and there’s no need for any tail back if every one is in the correct lane before reaching the lane closure. On that note if merging at the obstruction is supposedly better why bother with the red X.

not too many big words in there, me hopes

Queue CF saying that’s rubbish because it’s in contravention to what he says…

C’mon Carryfast, you surely can’t disagree with the “official” Minnesota Department of Transportation. Being “Minnesota nice”, you know they make sense.

Zip merging is the way to go. I always allow one in at the end (2 if the prick in front won’t play ball). The problem comes in, when either a ■■■ tries to squeeze in with someone else, which happens to hgv’s a lot, or as I mentioned a ■■■ holding someone out when it’s their turn.

This is the problem. Most people are too selfish for this zip merging to be effective. Plus, lots of people simply lack the driving skills necessary to make it effective.

Too right , it’s ■■■■■■■ selfish trying too bully your way in to a que under the pretence your zip merging , what the ones in the que want to do is what I do ,don’t let the ■■■■■ in :exclamation: :exclamation: :smiling_imp:

I believe zip merging is compulsory, by law, in Jersey, so why not here?

So what do you propose then? Get over a mile before? 2 miles before? Leaving empty tarmac and having a 4 mile queue instead of a 2 mile one. You’ll just have people going right to the end of that marker and causing the same problems. Don’t you get it? It’s an attitude like yours that causes the problem, and the massive queues we all have to sit in :unamused:

Especially when there are often signs saying use both lanes when queuing… :unamused:
FFS dozy, you also whine about having to drag the job out to fulfill your hours, how bloody dense are you? :open_mouth:
Just sit back chill and let the world get on with itself…
