Zer0's Training Diary!

Without a doubt tell them in that kind of situation, I meant if someone cuts you up or a pedestrian walks out etc etc, don’t call them names!

Top tip of the day: if you’re going to do anything unusual, point it out BEFORE you do it. If someone flashes to let you go, pass a comment like “that was nice of him to flash”. The examiners, believe it or not, are human and cannot possibly see everything. Could make the difference between pass and fail.

Happy Christmas all, Pete

another tip along the same lines is that giving your self a running commentary (ok 6 gear, left mirror right mirror, pull out to pass that car) etc gives you more concentration and helps more than you would think.

Excellent tip. And yes, you can do it on test. It’s actually an advanced driving technique and certainly helps the driver as well as keeping the trainer informed as to what you are seeing/not seeing.

Highly recommended.

Thanks again for all this help guys. I’m taking every word of it in i assure you  .

Currently reading through the “DSA Guide to Driving Goods Vehicles”. It covers everything i need for my theory test. I’m also reading through the DSA Theory book as well. I could just read through the questions and memorise as many as i can but i’d rather actually understand the answers i’m giving. There’s no point answering “Tri-axle trailers with single wheels” If i have no idea what one is or does!

tri means 3 so its a 3 axle trailer
single means 1 so it is fitted with super single tyres on each axle

Just ask if unsure what something means or it might be IN THIS POST :bulb:

Passed my theory and hazard perceptions tests today guys! Now i can get onto the real stuff and finally get training.

Multiple choice was a breeze, i scored 97/100.

The hazard perception confused the hell out of me. When i passed my car HP i’m pretty sure i just clicked as i saw a hazard or potential hazard up ahead. Today i think the test wanted me to click when i saw a hazard and when the hazard had passed? it also pointed out pedestrians walking normally down the pavements and circled them as hazards  do i click everytime i see a pedestrian or what? very confusing!

I still scraped through it though, 2 points above the pass mark! but a pass is a pass!

I’ll be updating more regularly now, especially when i start my on the road training

It’s been said many times that the HPT is a farce. I for one think it should only be done once for your car test or bike test (whichever comes first) and not be bothered with again.

Congrats on passing. Looking forward to practical training updates.

According to the DSA top bods the HPT is not fit for purpose so what does that say about it !!

Surely you mean it should be dropped altogether?

I agree. I passed it first time when i took my car theory and have been driving for 6 years since that. Why the hell would i need to take it again? It’s pretty daft in my opinion.

HPT is a joke. Didn’t do it for my car or bike test, 99% on theory, and 72 (I think) on HPT. The explanation is crap, you don’t get any examples. Anyone who can’t spot a hazard, shouldn’t be driving at all (or walking, for that matter)

I was clicking all oncoming traffic, all pedestrians, animals etc. Anything is a potential hazard. What if that building falls over? What about that plane in the sky? Every driveway could have a kid about to run out of it. But you get told too much clicking will affect your score.

Can’t win!

I was seriously going to do my PCV, just so I could say I’d got a full set. It was doing the theory etc that put me off.

I can drive an artic. Surely that should say something about my ability to drive? I think I’m hardly going to get all reckless with a bus full of human beings.

Exactly my problem! I was unsure what the test classed as a hazard and what didn’t. So for some pedestrians i would click but for some i wouldn’t because i was scared of overclicking and scoring 0 on that particular clip. Anyway, thank god it’s out of the way.

Another update by the way! Got my Assessment Drive booked in for the coming Tuesday!
