Office of National Statistics figures are complete nonsense as they use Official Census numbers . I always chuck mine in bin as its none of their business , so know they are wrong . Also they obviously dont include people who are temporary , dont speak the language , illegals ,criminals , absent on day of census etc etc .A good guide of real figures is National Insurance number issues which i quoted above as 56000 for black country alone . All legal workers should have a NI number , so this provides a base figure to which illegals can be added . this figure is anyones guess

And no i dont have a problem with french dutch spanish people coming to work here . these countries have many brits wishing to live/work there so things balance out . they are no particular strain or drain on economy .
