a few months back, a bloke parked his car on the hard shoulder of an unlit stretch of the M6 at 3 in the morning, put his hazards on, wrote a suicide note on a text, then calmly waited for one of our firm to come by and walked out in front of a loaded 44 tonne DAF XF

460 or a 510 ?

Shouldn’t laugh as something horrible has happend , but that made me  rip

Had to have been a 460, a 510 would have passed before he got into the road. Shouldn’t laugh I know but that comment was brilliant

Someone did it to one of my stepdads firm a while ago, what makes it worse imo is the local papers made the guy out to be a saint, all the family, everything to live for and all that crap. Surely something must have been wrong for him to try and hug a moving Volvo FH13…

:laughing::lol:

I’d be seriously ■■■■■■ off if major damage was caused to my truck because of a suicide, especially as it almost certainly wouldn’t be considered an insurable loss. I would have absolutely no hesitation in taking legal action against the deceased’s relatives to recover my losses.

If I wanted to kill myself then I’m quite sure I could do it quietly and without dragging anybody else into it, and all sympathy for suicidally depressed people evaporates when they do insist on making a public act of what should be a totally private decision.

Sounds harsh but that is the reality , especially the likes of your self as an OD , no doubt you would get a load of grief for doing it though. The Suiciders obviously are having problems but like you say they are bringing other people/families into their problems

And another death today

I think you are safe Harry, even in the depths of despair most people
would wait for a make of truck that would give some dignity in death.

if somebody wishes to kill themselves there is not a lot you can do about it so yeah the best thing is to carry on working if someone walks out in front of you,my brother is a train operator on the underground and he said to me one day that in all the years he has been on there he has never had one under,i replied why he would want that,he said you get 3 months off on full pay, fair play i thought cos as i said you cannot stop someone who is set on killing themselves so you might as well get something out of it,harsh or not thats the way i see it as well, although you would not get that time off in transport, employers would probably just tell you to accept it and get on with it

i was unfortunatly sent to this railwaysarchive.co.uk/docsum … docID=1222 was on site for three days assisting the RAIB with there inquiry then simply sent back to manchester to carry on as a signalman . the breakdown that followed four months later eventually cost me my marriege house and the job i loved all because some selfish person decided suicide by train was the best way out . the fact that he caused so much pain to so many lives wont of entered his head

I follow on twitter the North West police motorway group and its seems everyday there is someone reported walking on the motorway, what is up with these people

I was on the M5 near Avonmouth a few days ago and the matrix said Pedestrians In Road. Got round the corner and some natural selection dodger was pushing a bike along the hard shoulder.

To his credit though, he had a hi viz on :grimacing:

i’ve seen them several times on Avonmouth bridge as they obviously don’t realise that there is a cycle path on the southbound side of the motorway

I was coming up the A1 on thursday and just before the M18 jn there was a young lad walking southbound pulling along a suitcase with another bag on his back. No real hard shoulder there either. :open_mouth:

His cranky bird had probably just thrown him out cos night before he went straight to pub after work, was probably just making his way back to mums place.
no sense of humour women

i remember that crash, and if i remember correctly an off duty police officer tried to save the car driver but was too late,i felt really sorry for the train driver and passengers but not the car driver,i remember calling him some choice words when i passed the scene on my deliveries along the A4,i did not realise it was first great western though as i think thats the mob my younger brother works for today and has done for the last few years

two things stick with me to this day the nokia ringtone on the phones of the dead and injured that we were not allowed to pick up let alone answer and the all pervading smell of diesel fuel mixed with effluent from the toilet & fuel tanks on the train tanks smelling similar and hearing the ring tone can have me strait back there . the sights only come back occasionally but at the most unexpected times not something i wish to see again but not something i would shy away from if that makes sence
