Just heard on the radio that another holiday company has gone bump. Some Turkey firm based in London
Wheel Nut:
Just heard on the radio that another holiday company has gone bump. Some Turkey firm based in London
K&S Travel, which also trades under the name Travel Turkey, is the latest casualty
The north London-based firm organises package tours to Turkey through flights chartered through Onur Air.
It seems Alitalia have gone bankrupt now, and the Italian goverment are trying to save it from collapse.
I think this is soon to be the end of the budget airline, if a major national airline can not pay for fuel, how can a airline charging £10 for flights survive? Ryanair are said to loose £48 million this year because of fuel costs.
Everythings totaly [zb] up

i shop about for everything using kelkoo, ebay and amazon for almost everything and save alot instead of going to a shop and paying thier prices.
Iām vaguely wondering if he learned his diplomacy skills at āLoose-Cannons-R-Usā
wellā¦iāll set my stall out hereā¦i went for a week in greece with FIRST CHOICE/THOMAS COOKā¦i saved hard for it and took 1.a package deal(more expensive)ā¦2.holiday insurance/mediacal insurance in fullā¦3.paid for it on credit card then paid the card off.
now i was more responsible than some of the people taking cheap deals and not being fully covered but i still think that OUR government should support any taxpayer stranded abroad for whatever reason.even if that assistance has to be payed back at a later date.
whether you can afford to go on holiday is immaterial.some people are stretching themselves just to go a cheap deal.if you fly out and get stranded through no fault of your own why do we rely on the civil aviation authority to fly back uk citizens?
after all we bailed out a lending bank that loans the mortgages to MPās etc to the tune of BILLIONS of pounds.we fund holidays for MPās every year and fitted kitchens and cars for them.when it comes to the normal poulation of this country this government does not give a tossā¦one rule for them another rule for usā¦
Off course the governments ludicrous taxes would have nothing to do with it ā¦!!!

Whilst wholly respecting all views, isnāt that inviting the Nanny-state to wipe us clean? Above & beyond what our passports state (ie, āā¦Please help this blokeā¦ā, etc) surely Visa/Amex/Barclaycard/Travellers cheques/Insurance are international and thus well able to get us and our sombreros back to Gatwick?
Itās worth getting a perspective by realising that no-one has died over this

The govāt donāt help our cold pensioners unless itās approx minus 7 for approx 7 days ā¦canāt see the the set-up/funding of a holiday bail/credit institution being too popular with our war-winners.

Arguably needs greater definition, bearing in mind that Jade Goody, Salman Rushdie and the Mad Mullah are British too. Iād sooner look after our Squaddies a bit better ā¦especially those who donāt particularly like their brains being in the cross-hairs of a Russian financed RPG.
wrecktech100:
āā¦why do we rely on the civil aviation authority to fly back uk citizensā¦?ā
Because itās bonded (at approx Ā£1/transaction from the purchaser) through the CAA at no cost to the taxpayer. Thus the CAA has an approx Ā£4m to get XL folk home from their portion of bonded capital.

In Newcastle? Isnāt offering a job-saving hand to a very depressed (Nu-Lab) area very commendableā¦bearing in mind that the grafters - who also had mortgages with them - werenāt on a holiday!

Ha-ha, we give more to un-needed & un-elected bossy-boots donkeys in the EU & NEVER get a bean in return apart from their cheap-drivers & unwanted legislation. At least our toffās spend theirs in British John Lewis and not the Euro-junket.

My Son was on Holiday in Crete and due to fly back on Friday Tea Time, He called me on Friday Morning saying theyād just been told XL had gone ā ā ā ā up, and it was everyone running round like headless chickens.
I said āWhat you going to do then?ā His Reply was simply, Iām off into the Pool to make the most of it

I called The Travelwise branch for him, and asked what was happenning, their reply was quite simple, tell him to get to the Airport by Taxi and keep the receipts, report to the CAA office and theyāll sort a flight out for him.
He arrived back in Newcastle Airport at 8:45pm Friday on a Viking Plane
He got an e-mail from some of the lads heād met over there whoāve said they have been told Tuesday at the earliest for a flight for those, but they were also told not to hold their breath.
Anway I think whats annoying most is the fact the hotels have told them to cough up for the rooms or get out.

Glad your ladās alright ā¦whilst respecting that foreign hotels are businesses with whom the customer had a contract. To unilaterally amend it isnāt always amenable.
If I had a relative who came for the weekend then decided to stay because their unreliable car was condemned then Iād get a bit jumpy tooā¦
Yeah I can agree witth that Keith, however, a lot of them were unaware of the fate awaiting them on Friday and most had spent up.
A few had asked for permission to wire money across from the UK off their family to cover any hotel bills but the hoteliers were adamant cash up front.
I know when I pay money by T\T wire to China its 3 working days minimum, the hoteliers should be a little more tolerant, after all, the odds are the next lot of tourists wont be arriving ![]()
The CAA should of stood guarantor in those cases at least it gives stranded holiday makers peace of mind.
unhappy keithā¦are you a spin doctor?

they should have walked homeā¦or sold the children to fund tickets home.

Maybe Iām subconciously pigged-off that my sprog/herbert didnāt send his olā lad a card when he flew Air Malta last weekā¦tho he was with his in-laws, possibly hence my ājackā attitude: Sorry ; )

Could have taken a punt with Paddy Power last week. they were running a book on the next holiday company to go bump and XL were at the top of the running order. They actually stopped taking bets on the collapse because there was that much money going on.
As for the government bringing people back via the CAA, well the CAA is around 21 million in debt and yes itās the tax payer that will foot the bill. As we footed the bill for Northern Rock. Iād rather shunt 21 million to looking after the old and the ill. As there is finite resources, that money will have to be taken off some other recipient of government funding.
Iāve had a customer go bust on me (sure Iām not the only one on here), but so far I donāt see anyone lining up to give me a single penny. Thatās the way the cookie crumbles.
The Difference is that part of the holiday cost goes into the Holiday kitty to cover these problems, hence the reason only the companies contributing are covered.
Regardless of what the business is, if it gets to the point administrators are called in itās a sad day, unless the company has been deliberately run into the ground in which case the directors should be banned from trading again for 5 years or so to stop these Phoenix companies appearing.

Then at work a Keighley & District bus reversed at speed in Leeds bus station straight into the front of my 08 plate decker smashing the side window, windscreen and n/s mirror in,then she jumped off her bus and said āi was supposed to give way to reversing busesā. I havent moved love,i was waiting for the bus at the side of you :unamused: .Despite both buses having CCTV i got 3 witnesses to cover myself. As the windscreen was smashed i had to wait for the tow truck. At least i managed a ride in this little machine, the first truck i have been in since leaving BY. [michaelhighman.fotopic.net/p52117862.html](http://michaelhighman.fotopic.net/p52117862.html) The driver and myself had a good laugh at a lad running for my bus then sticking his hand out despite the tow truck bolted to the front  . He turned a hid embarassed  It also turned out that the tow truck drivers son was due to fly home Friday morning with XL,he managed to phone him and tell him to get to the airport sharpish before the queues formed and blagged a free ride out earlier than his booked flight. They say things happen in Threes. If i get chance i will post a couple of pics off my phone of the recovery
heres the pictures for jonboyā¦
