The air intake is at roof level, any electrical components/connections should be waterproof, no part that was submerged would remain free of road spray on a wet road surface, so it’s unlikely to have caused any mechanical damage and you would need to have a fair bit of speed to push through that amount of water, so I don’t really see anything wrong with what he did, if that was the only way in or out of wherever he was then he had no choice, other than to wait it out
Primary intake is at roof level, moisture drain is at the bottom so there’s one way in as standard. The slightest leak on a connection or air filter box joint and the water will go in and the filter won’t stop it all. I’ve had loads of cars, bikes, vans and a renault R340 at my garage that have all had engines wrecked by folk trying to compress water. Even had it on a 18-34 merc where the head gasket had allowed the water to fill one bore overnight and it broke a con-rod when it started up next morning. You cannot compress liquid much at all. A cyl full of air pushed tight by the stroke of a piston will create about 200psi, a cyl full of water and you would be lucky to move the piston more than 3mm and at that, it would be likely to be at 4-5000 psi. That is the difference between compressing gas and liquid. Try it with a pushbike pump for yourself.
Looks like this guy has forged rivers before, well done!
It should not be attempted by anyone that has not had experience in doing this, just take that Police van from the earlier thread, clearly that guy had never been taught how to do this.
You are judging someone on skills that you may or may not have been taught. Who knows, the drive might be a world class off-roader at the weekends…
I would give it a go but then I’ve literally been up to my neck in it in a Landrover before. It’s knowing your vehicle limitations.

Double post…
i’ve owned a few landrovers and done a fair bit of off-roading in the past, and i think i would have tried it if there was no alternative. it looked to me as if he was going a bit fast but otherwise he did the right thing by creating a bow wave. this has the effect of lowering the level of water behind it. most diesel engines will run completely submerged as long as the air intake is above the water and there is enough pressure in the exhaust system to keep the water out.

I don’t know what the wading depth of an FH is, but it definitely made it
That clip was recorded at the Barnsdale Road junction with Station Road at Allerton Bywater around 3 or 4 hundred metres from my house.
I`ve seen turners trucks doing that a few times, flood is usually caused by deliberately letting water out of the canal in Castleford to prevent flood damage elsewhere.

I videoed a flatbed going through a bad spot in the Sheffield floods 2007 at the end of this short clip…

One of Rob Hatfields from Newbald attempting it at the beginning of that film.
the other thing about going through flood water especally winter time is water getting into the brake actuators and if it freezes then the brakes are locked and cant release
I’ve not got the pictures anymore unfortunately, but those of you that used to read my diary will remember when I got stuck in the Rotherham floods and tried to get back to the M1 by going down that little dipped road at the side of Rank Hovis. The water was half way up the brick wall and nearly round the window glass on the cars that were parked there but I went for it anyway, low gear, decent amount of revs and nice and smooth to create the bow wave and the XF I was in went through with no dramas at well.
Personally I don’t see anything wrong with the Turners clip other than he was going too fast as he was creating a [zb] tidal wave, not a bow wave.

Waits for orys to post his video of the truck crossing the river
I remember the one you are thinking about, but can’t find it.
Will that be any good instead? The river is not so deep, but it’s worth watching to the end!

And this should answer OP question how it could end:

Something like this?
Wow, that one is good as well
