Would You Drive A Tipper?

A case of “Face don’t fit” is my guess Kev! They tried to dictate when I took my breaks and got told! Wasn’t that keen there because of this and I get bored very very quick when asked to “have breaks when tipping”
I’m not easily intimidated Kev!

Not sure whether working for quarry and recycling centre operators is the best way, or for independant contractors? The independent hauliers are usually first to be parked up when the work’s quiet but you’re less of a number and more of an individual. Where I am appears to be a combination of both, but I work out of the same places. Working for the bigger companies usually means more slimy managers to deal with, lots of memos to file under “R” and compulsory wearing of orange trousers and matching itchy tea shirts.

Started back on a artic bulker on Thursday and loved it makes a change from the brain washeing at Argos

i cant stand being forced to wear hi vis trousers!! if someone cant see you wearing hi viz long sleeve jacket,a pair of matching goon trousers is not going to make any difference.
just three or four yrs ago when i was on hire to a subbie, backfilling on the gas for skanska/mcnicholas i never got any grief for turning up and working in a pair of cargo shorts, trainers, and t shirt and hi viz vest.if any health and safety bods were about i would stick a hard hat on and my boots.no problem.
then it became long trousers were mandatory, then long sleeve hi vis, then safety glasses ffs.
now you are supposed to wear flame retardent overalls aswell!!!
and as for wearing a hard hat on the grab, how the hell could i drop something on my own head lol?

I have and it’s bloody marvellous!!! Done my first shift on beet yesterday on Class 1 bulker! :sunglasses:
Easy work and use your brain a lot more! i.e loading, shortest distance to tip/load

Hiya dessy…i see you’ve been doing beets…if you ever do shredded pulp(i don’t know if the pulp is all dried
nowadays)if you do its not good stuff to tip. we used to do pulp from Newark to Peterbourough many years
ago when they put a new drier in to Newark.to tip pulp when the tipper is nearly right up and the pulp moves
you need to keep moving and spread the load. if you go forward a bit the stop the pulp will stop but spread out
the sides. then its a fork job to free the pressure off the sides. also if the load slips maybe 15feet then stops
the load will jam at a very high piont the you’ll struggle to move as youll be bricking it.usually if pulp is tipped
its in a hanger with plenty of roof space. spread the load and let the digger clean up for you.
also if someone has tipped wet pulp befoe you its like been on a ice rink. same again shoot the body up and
as soon as you feel the load slip (be in gear) and just go. hope this helps . or jusy ask and old ■■■■ like me
they’ll tell you how to tip. enjoy your tipping carear. the other bad load is old engines the bolts wedge in the sides
and always on one side makeing the tipper to lean and possibly go over.if in doubt always watch someone else or ask.
cheers John

Hiya …yes H&S is going mad. one day in the 80,s a chap in the army was on parade at the barracks near Southend.
meanwhile a chap was mowing a grass area, the mower hit a pebble in the grass, the pebble shot into the lads on
parade, then one soldier fell to the ground. the pebble hit the side of the head and killed him instantly.A bad day.

Great advice John! It’s a part-time job! Covering every other Saturday for a mate! At least till I get a new full time job!
