Never warn a motorcyclist of a speed trap either…
Why not? When I’m on my bike I still warn truck drivers !

Are there really professional HGV drivers who would sit and watch without a blast on the horn, and if needed hop out of the cab for two seconds to point out the pillar? If so,not only would this make you a crap driver (imho) but also a crap person!
exactly !
Just think that could be you backing in to it and he could be you…
How long does it take to beep your horn or get out and point, we all one big family part from stobart there in there own family

Sadly, there are. They’d rather watch somebody knock a pillar down and tell other sad-cases in the RDC canteen how they saw so-and-so do it. Although by the time the story was told, it would of course be two pillars/a wall/manager’s car etc. You know the kind…

The sound Switchlogic made as it all went a bit Costa Concordia?
agree totally about the state of things now., its all ‘f u jack ,i’m alright’ nowadays.,me? i would always alert/help out to avoid an accident, its a ‘no brainer’ for those of us with any decency left> btw.; is it------ ‘p###ks like that are the reason i dont post here much any more’? >lets be careful out there’ atvb dave m
First thing is it would be a cold day in hell, that would find me waiting like a
coiled spring for the seconds to tick away.Lifes too short for that kind of stress.
And second I would do whatever I could to prevent an accident.
Its a karmic attitude but it works for me.

We have a winner! What’ll you have?
I would watch, let him hit the bollard…then honk the horn…
I`m amazed with some of the comments on here though…like someone expecting help in parking, or strapping a load…whats that all about.
I must admit, i dont need anyones help, and i dont ask for any, because i am a professional, if i hit a bollard, thats my problem, for not looking or being observant.
If i am reversing, and someone hoots the horn, it actually puts me off, and gets the brain box thinking as to whether i have been observant enough.
So the above comment, although ending with a laugh, is exactly what i would do, it might make drivers more vigilant, make them get off of their fat arses, and actually look before making that fatal manoevre. However, if there was a person behind the vehicle, who looked like they were going to get seriously hurt, i would of course sound the horn.

^^This must have been what the good old days were like^^
See kids? I told you they never existed…
I do agree with not asking for help though. I’ve had people volunteer to “watch me in” and then shrug when I’ve trusted them and broken a lamp… Not a good feeling, wanting to smack a customer
groovy greg:
if you where sitting on your break dum de dum de dum, tapping the steering wheel, foot on the clutch revving engine hand on the brake waitng for clock to tick over 45 and you noitce a fellow artic reversing in ur directio., nothing unusual about that, but you then begin to realise the driver hasnt seen or noticed (you presume) the concrete pillar which is chest high, you sit and watch they get closer to it, and it looks very much like his p/s rear of trailer is about to make love to the pillar, the driver oblivious…would you alert them, flash lights/sound your horn? or would you sit and watch them hit it, get out your cab point and

Usually happy for other drivers to help but a lot of staff at drops and general public ‘help’ is not much use, attracts more bystanders and just another obstacle to avoid.
Spectating lorries reversing in public places is a UK national sport and ought to be a demonstration event at London 2012.
Everyone has a bad day and miss things once in a while.Choice between being called nasty things by an embarrassed driver,or thanked by a grateful one? No choice. I would do my best to stop him damaging anything.I’d rather be told twice about a hazard I was aware of than not told at all about one that I had missed.
