Worst part of HGV Driving

Worst part of lorry driving ? pretty much the same as any other job - [zb] . (another word for a donkey beginning with A 3 letters and what you make with a spade in the ground 4 letters )
They seem to breed twice as fast as sensible people and infest every office if not kept in check.Once they outnumber the sensible people the whole place takes a nosedive with meaningless , pointless box ticking exercises, health and saftey procedures and safe methods of work statements to the point were a simple delivery that should take 20 minutes becomes a 6 hour + wait. As an example now when you turn up to the gatehouse they want your name , adress and telephone number for "Track and trace " Has anyone seen the pen and clipboard being wiped either before or after you have used it ? - me neither and thats why I wont fill it in - if they want the info I’ll provide it verbaly and if they so desire they can write it down and take the risk .

Get rid of the [zb] and it becomes a lot easier .

I hope none of your elder relatives die because some selfish git has not given track and trace details. :imp:

Perhaps you should read and understand what I "said " . I will not use their pens and paper or clip boards . I will provide the information verbally - if they want to write it down then so be it .

Don’t talk utter nonsense, track and trace is a government initiative to keep tabs on people, anyone who downloads these apps will always be at the fore front of big brother and erode freedom of people. It’s the responsibility of the older to protect themselves. Same for the obese and ill …

The quotes are cocked up above, but does the same attitude apply to pedestrians on zebra crossings? Those who can’t run out of the way of an approaching truck shouldn’t risk stepping out their front door?
Should mother’s with prams stay indoors because they can’t dodge bad drivers?
.
Has Beefy thought of carrying his own pen?
.
Track and trace is to show consideration to fellow citizen’s in a civilised society.
I doubt the Gov has the energy to follow, or interest in, the detailed movements of every paranoid truck driver just for fun.

I knew a lad with British International who regularly did Portuguese runs but never went abroad again after seeing a full on shoot out between the Basque terrorist group ETA and the police in Spain , now he definitely had a reasonable excuse .

Oh that old chestnut. Was it the police keeping watch on him whilst having a 9-off on a cordoned-off bay with chalked off tyres? Sounds like you’ve sat in far too many RDCs for far too long.

Beefy has a cab full of pens , Little point in using my own pen if the clipboard hasn’t been sanitised in two weeks .
Like I said - I’ll provide the info they can write it down if they want to . Why should I take the risk of infecting myself ?

Alike you I carry my own pen.
I also have disposable gloves, if I feel the need for them; soap and water in the cab; and a pack of alcohol wipes: the sachets can be carried in a jacket pocket.

Doesnt take much effort to make things go smoothly, and rely on ones own resources rather than those of others to disinfect surfaces etc. Wouldn`t you agree?

Don’t know about you lot, but I’m really getting sick of all this ■■■■■■■■.
Ok,.I know the virus is real,.and we need an element of care, but ffs, some are taking things soooooo ■■■■ seriously, guys are walking around now in full face visors, :unamused: .
I got a filthy look off this guy in the queue at Gregg’s the other day, because I dared to break the 1 metre social distance rule by all of 6 inches…and I was wearing my snood/mask.
I said to him ‘What’ ? with a menacing glare on my face (well, what he could see of my face :unamused: ) but he just turned around and said nothing. :unamused:

I am responsible for myself and my family .I am classed as an at risk person due to health issues At work I will keep my cab clean , tidy and sanitised . When I arrive at another place of work I expect them to do the same . If I see no evidence of them trying to keep the place clean and anything that they expect me to use sanitised when I will refuse to use it .I lost my uncle to covid early on and I have taken as many precautions as practically possible to keep myself and my family safe . The companies and places I visit have a duty of care towards me -I expect them to at the very least to make some kind of effort to keep themselves and myself safe while on their premises If I see no evidence of this then I will do my best to accomodate them but there are limits .Beleive it or not I a fairly easy going guy but I have limits and once reached I will not back down. I find it a great pity others think this is all a joke or some sort of hinderance to their daily routine .

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

I couldn`t agree more.
The slight hiccup it causes most of us, compared to what could be extremely grave consequences for others is notable.

I see your point mate if you are on the at risk list,.and sorry to hear about your Uncle,.I have an Auntie on the same list,.and my parents are both in their 80s.
My firm are going to great lengths to publicise their support for the NHS, but at the same time still allot different trucks to different drivers daily. :unamused:
My post was aimed at the other end of the spectrum. :bulb:
I do not go as far as the conspiracy theorists who think this is all some kind of bizarre social experiment or hoax, I just think it’s like everything else in this country, you always get the ott.s, the serial conformists, yes men,.and ner do wrongs (the full face visor posse  ) who do everything they are told and then some, we’ve all seen the Waffen Divison of the H&S nazis as a good example of what I’m on about.
Way I see it as long as you are are careful,.and a bit more hygienic in terms of hand sensitisation, that is adequate.

The worst part … being surrounded by moaning, whinging, bullshitters, one up man shippers, folk that focus on ‘the worst part’ rather than the good bits, grasses, the I have done more miles than him in reverse types.

The best bit? Getting that ■■■■■■■ thing out the gate in a morning and being bloody free from all of the above.

Thanks for explaining the learning process also btw…, but believe it or not, I do understand the concept.

I do understand what my bad habits are, but hey… they work for me,.and have done so far, but rest assured Jake if they ever do get me into ‘serious trouble’ as you put it, then I’ll let you know.

As arrogant as it may sound to you,.I could not summon up the required amount of interest or enthusiasm to go under any type of instruction, it’s well up on my ‘Simply couldn’t be arsed’ list…as I said I ain’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, I’ll fully admit that, but I am satisfied and content in how I drive, and that’s good enough for me tbh.
So the scenario of me ever being your ‘student’ :open_mouth: … is never going to happen.

Oh yeh meant to say, another ‘strange opinion’ for you…most ‘assesors’ I have met, seen or spoken to have always came across as know it alls, (usually with an advanced driver badge on the grille of their Rover,)
When you speak to them they are usually ex day drivers or night trunkers doing 150 mile radius motorway jobs, so basically far less varied driving (or life for that matter) skills or experience than some of the drivers they are meant to be ‘assessing’.

You are a special one knowing your bad habits! Never come across that before! I wonder how many you don’t know about? Can’t be arsed with instruction says a lot about a driver but I can’t be arsed to explain why.
Talking about assessors I am not like any of the ones you have met. I was properly qualified whilst assessing was only a small part of my job. Have come across these types you mention though.
Usually totally unqualified (apart from a licence ) think they are something special because their boss or TM has asked them to assess other drivers just because they have not had an accident recently. They tend to only pass on one thing. Their own bad habits.

How would you know the clipboard has not been sanitised in 2 weeks? If you are wearing gloves what’s the problem? It ain’t hard to fill in a forum with your details.
It’s about taking responsibility for the situation to help others.

Cheers Jake for the ‘Special One’ tag, but I already know this :sunglasses: in fact I tell everyone…me and Jose Mouriniho.

As I said, whatever it ‘says about me’ I don’t really care tbh but that is just the way I am, ,so don’t worry too much about you not being arsed enough to explain, and as I say, I get by quite well tbh mate… bad habits or not.

No need to defend yourself as an assessor, I was winding you up,( but you’re slipping as you can usually tell when I am. )

The worst part is listening to silly old ■■■■■ go on about how they navigate using the stars.
