There were 2 Dutch MANs that used to occasionally come to the UK which had ‘Only a woman can handle a MAN’ painted on them.
I have to say though, if I were a female truck driver, I wouldn’t advertise the fact on my truck.
What discussion I’ve had with female truck drivers seem to indicate the old days of open hostility towards women driving lorries seem to be more-or-less over. However more practical problems (rude/offensive people at drops, unacceptable toilet/washing facilities, long and unpredictable hours, poor wages and so on) are what make it unattractive to most women.
Interestingly, when manufacturers have ‘ride and drive’ days where non-licence holders can take the wheel of a truck there’s more enthusiasm from women than men in my experience. Non truck driving men seem afraid of not being able to drive a truck properly without being told how, and don’t want to be told how to drive, while most women will actually listen to the instruction and learn something.
If I ever bought my owe lorry’s and can say with hand on heart I would b doing my best to get females to drive for me, jaysus the men I see driving lorry,in services and in waiting room is a disgrace.some don’t wash their hair from 1 month to the next,the greasing looking head of them, don’t wear gloves opening or closing trl doors and so on. Most wear dark clothing and black boots to hide their dirt. I be looking at them and thinking “ur a dirty looking ■■■■■■■■■ did u last wash” I like to dress smart or what’s knower in Ireland as the “tang look”. Any females I have come across appeared washed,well dressed (jeans) and if approach in the right way can talk the talk without going on about themselves, the keep the cabs clean.only today I sat at the same tablet with 1 on the boat on the way home.well dressed,talked the talked, has much as we love to gave stobart drive a hard time,well at least the appear dressed and washed.

Once passed and rolling I have no intention of advertising my gender on my truck. I did originally think of things like pink hard hat/hi viz etc but no, I want as little added attention as I can, I just want to get on with the job and hopefully do it well.

Most of the female truck drivers I know have smooth chins and they DEFINITELY have a lot less stubble than I do

Pink hi vis you will be told to take off more times than you put it on but pink boots are nice, got to scuff them up a bit though as they look terrible the first week. Are you in mothertruckers? Wendy does some really good name plate designs
