Wobbly Steering

get the king pins greased, there will possibly be end caps over the grease ■■■■■■■, hammer and chisel should sort them out

Our fitter mentioned that when I told him about it on Friday. Its not my usual motor & I reckon Adie (the usual driver) hasn’t noticed it as much as I did, because it wasn’t a massive distortion & its probably just crept up on him.

Funny how the night trunkers haven’t noticed it either, perhaps its because the culture here is- Pull into the yard, jump out & get home before the turbo’s stopped spinning :unamused:

Defects ? defects ? What are those . some of them don’t even do the statuary walk round check before they take the wagon out. :imp:
I’m just waiting for VOSA to target them one night, at least my records will be straight

Funny enough Martin, a mate of mine is doing quite a bit of subbing work out of your place in his white (well silver actually) vans. He reckons they are slick, professional, easy to work with and above all pay on time every time. He can’t sing their praises high enough.

I can’t comment on the subbie work, I wouldn’t doubt there would be a problem with payments etc, it’s just that my TGX has been away for MOT since last Thursday & I’ve driven 4 different ‘Filthy’ motors, all with defects of one sort or another.

I just want my Jennifer back !
The MOT station didn’t bother to do get on Friday, because she wasn’t ‘ON THE LIST’ ! Knobs !
She was at the station from Thursday afternoon. Grrrrrrrr !

Hopefully gonna get get back today (fingers crossed)

I feel your pain mate. My clutch went on the M62 last Tuesday, so I spent the rest of the week cab hopping. Same year motors as the one I drive but I wouldn’t keep livestock in them! Consequently I refused any nights out but still had to have a long hot shower every night I got home, then dried myself off and repeated!

12.00,
just got her back Hooray !
They can have their ‘Pigsty’s’ back complete with all the Defects.

Hiya…is this steering wobbly or do you over compensate to keep the lorry straight■■?
i had a leyland roadtrain years ago, that was a pain to keep straight on the motorway.
the garage said it was because i’d had a 2800 DAF before(huge steering wheel)
i kept moaning about this leyland. the garage got a pressure tester to check the
Steering box. no problem. the garage then took the steering box/ coloum of another lorry.
Still no change. anyhow i go into the garage(can’t come in here) i stayed a while.
(well i had some mechanical knowledge ) i said have you dropped a track rod end off
to see roughly where the tightness was. the driver side wheel would go from lock to
lock with one finger. the passenger side two men couldn’t move the wheel.
so warm up King pin and grease well. that solved the problem. well done lads.
the king pin was seized up on a new lorry. might help i don’t know from here.

Sounds like that could be the problem, I had to keep adjusting the steering wheel every few seconds, hopefully I wont have to drive it again & anyway its supposed to be going in tonight for its
6 week check.

shuttlespanker:
that’s just it, if it has a regular driver, he won’t notice it, because it is a very gradual change, but, if you go from your regular motor which is fine, on to the one where the king pins need greasing, it is very noticeable

In one.

Funny that. Steering u/j, dry kingpins, wheel balance etc, etc, none of that comes up with a fault code so there can’t be anything wrong.

Ha Ha !

Well that definitely wasn’t the problem with mine because I did all of the above. In the end all I could find was worn cab bushings and put it down to the cab moving side ways and me correcting the steering wheel. Havnt driven it since so don’t know the outcome
