Wincanton-Magnet Kitchens-Newton Aycliffe

I can recall in the distant past when the company i worked for did some work for magnet, nearly all of it was home delivery work. it was either a 7.5t lorry or a 3.5t van
Some of the home deliveries where a complete zb, i can remember one job, we were delivering worktops to a house, and the owner wanted it taking around the back, and it was a tight area to manoeuvre the the fairly heavy and long worktops as well as being a fair distance from the road, i said to the guy we will drop it in your front garden then, unless your willing to put the kettle on, watching his face go from angry to a blank expression was worthwhile, and whilst we were having a brew we explained to him that our normal job title wasn’t labourer but a driver, and that normally we either leave them by the front door or just inside the house

I wonder if this is a different kind of job Tommy T or the agency are telling me porkies. They told me it’s tramping with no handballing. I really hope it’s not home deliveries as my reversing isn’t up to much just yet and don’t fancy reversing into a tight cul de sac…and that wasn’t meant to be a euphemism

I did tramping work through the agency at Magnet about 6 or 7 years back, it was usually a lot of worktop type stuff to deliver to different outlets such as Wolseley and independent kitchen supply places plus also delivering to Magnet stores too, which agency are you using ?

One last tip - don’t just work then park and pull the curtains. That makes the week feel like one long slog. Even just sitting outside reading or listening to an iPod in the summer. Just get out the cab.

Spot on, get away from the bloody thing for a few hours every evening if poss, or you’ll become part of the Borg like so many who kip in main road laybys seem to have done.

I always tried to find somewhere quiet to park, well before i was running short of time, within reasonable walk of a pub likely to serve food, then even if you don’t actually speak to any bugger other than the bar staff you’ve had a decent meal and can sit in a corner with a good book and a pint well away from the tin can for a few well earned hours, might even meet up with another like minded driver or two and have a chin wag, talking ■■■■■■■■ of course which is part of the lorry scene.

You make sleeping on an uncomfortable bed away from any “comforts” sound so romantic.
