Wincanton Assessement

back again rog.

As to foreign drivers thats a different story alltogether most of them do not have the test standards we have so in them circumstances yes an assessment is well founded.

But as we could argue all day about this lets wind it up as we realy do not want to fall out over a difference of opinion you have yours and i have mine.
regards Pete

Please dont get me started on the foreigners lol

Passing a Driving test does not make you a good driver
that comes after wards when you start learning and this
learning is a ongoing and never ending lesson as one is
learning new points daily, As for foreign drivers GO to
Hungary or Finland and many other places and try driving
there you may find yourself be considered a hopeless driver
by the people of these country’s, No one is perfect and that
goes for all of us as we all sit in the same boat,
another point you try driving out in Siberia, i do think
you would not pass their exams,

Well pete i have driven in most of the places you mention so your point is ■■?

The discussion was assessments it then turned to experience no one said a new driver is experienced. but please dont try and impress me with where you have been and what you have done cos ive been there to and got the tee shirt. Trans UK, Astran, OCS , Nuremen. ive been there to.

no i WAS NOT TRYING THAT BUT and this is true many country’s
over here train there drivers better than the UK, try taking the German
, Dutch, Swiss Austrian test also i do not think that all these so called bad drivers may have been out of there country before, when PEKAS or
Hungerancamion OPERATED the drivers stayed in the eastern block side for a while, ,that is the point i was trying to get over, me it does not matter
what i have done as bragging is not my game and i just was in it for the fun any way,as for assessments you could be a very good driver but on the day of the assessment you just make a few mistakes because of nerves and that is it#
if you give a safe drive then get a short two to three week introduction to the work with a assessment and test if necessary at the end, when my last employer
started to pull GAS TANKERS we did a three week introduction and a
practical test, once passed we were allowed out on our own ,
by the way there was 20 of us 6polish, 1 English, 4germans , 9russians
we all passed, that is a better and fair way to check if the person is capable of doing the job,

How much do the snipers on the roof get paid ?

depends on how many kills they get in 1 day so it varies apparently

If it was my kit you were using i’d like to know by way of an assessment that you were up to the job, just passed your test means one thing, you know nothing. When I passed i could’nt even fill out a tachograph chart.

I had an interview and two weeks later a driving assessment. That was over four years ago and I am still waiting for a decision on whether they want to employ me.

Hi Sorry Brit Pete i may have read your reply wrong, please accept my apologies.
It just annoys me that we are supposed to be hgv drivers trained to a high standard, but then you get some poxy white collar from an office who has probaly never done the job telling you your faults. dont get me wrong i have had incidents where i have employed drivers who have just passed there tests and have had good and bad but more good than bad.

One guy plaged me for a job back in the eighties so i gave him a go and first trip out he tried to do a u-turn on the autobahn in germany the results were castrotropic (excuse the spelling ) so i agree experience comes with time. ( mark if your on here have you had anymore bumps lol) But having said that i believe that having your licence tells me your capable. and everyone deserves a chance.

Cheers guys for all the advice…seems i opened up a ‘whole can of worms’, that was not my intention. All good advice and some great info to think about.

Many thanks

J

Has that particular scenario got anything to do with experience though as surely anyone with commen sense would not try to pop a u-turn on a motorway. Thats just down to the lack of brain cells in that said person whatever type of license he has and no matter how long he’s had it.

Im goin to sit on the fence with this discussion though as i agree with both sides.
Last september i passed my class 1, now i feel as though ive done my bit in the sense of i can drive an artic, ive proved that i can so why should i then have to again be assed on my actuall driving?? thats just crap. But the other key factor is, u learn and do your test in an empty trailer so for the first time when youve got 30 tonne up your arse pushing you down hill you dont want to be learning the hard way.
