Why so eager to get back in nearside lane?

Gotta agree here too. Holding off like that when you’ve plenty of speed to get out from under whoever’s moved out is just asking for an elephant race when you then have to overtake all the people who are slower but could get around easily whilst you were backed off. If half of them backed off again…then half of the next lot…then half of the next lot…where would it end?

Holding someone out with matched or very close speeds is, I agree, innocent. But that yellow thing tearing out from under you and flashing it’s indicators in thanks will be me.

That is a different scenario to the one I was saying above, and I agree is wrong.

With a truck joining the carriageway and one on it moving over there are really only two possibilities.

  1. The joining truck is travelling a little slower than the one already on the road and simply slips on and maintains his speed while the other gets in front and pulls back to lane 1.

  2. The joining truck is moving faster than the other one and because the other one has moved over to lane two can slip on and quickly pull away, thanking the other driver in the process and leaving him clear to move back into lane 1 without having to adjust his speed. Two professional drivers reading the situation and carrying out the manoeuvre with the minimum of inconvenience to each other, or others on the road.

A car can quickly accelerate away with the same result as example 2.

The joining vehicle speeding up and matching the other vehicles speed is just plain wrong, shows a lack of understanding of road craft or the situation. Slowing down after joining isn’t much better and also shows a lack of reading the situation and is anything but professional or even courteous.

Er, Neil…the quoted bit above was only a proviso…I’m basically agreeing with you.

Yeah I know, just gave me a chance to continue the rant.

Ok…sorry…Do you want me to disagree instead to make it more interesting? :bulb:  :stuck_out_tongue: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Nah, because then I would have to change my stance in line with my new policy of contradictory postings. :stuck_out_tongue:

But My Mate Told Me you can only do that every third Monday in a leap year if the sun’s shining and the roadkill count outside the post office is below 2… :stuck_out_tongue:
