i remember a few years ago when i lived in the scottish borders we had so much snow and london had about 2 inches. on the news they came to a hlat and got bout half the news were as up here it was 5 secs of news and no power helicopters sending relief in “soft southerners” is a bit of a poor statement more like complete pansies
welshboyinspain:
does anybody understand why the uk comes to an abrupt stop with bit of snow and cold?
was in germany last week with 1 metre snow and -11c no probs and everything open and working
i bet the germans, danish, swedish and the like are laughing at the uk closing schools and airports councils running out of salt and transport services seemingly useless
they ( government) wont spend the money as they do in other coutries to combat the weather as its not frequent enough, this was on TV the other day.
Last bad spell of snow was in 1982 so they reckon it doesnt justify the cost of preventing it.
a bit of bad weather brings the country to a halt , but even a heat wave brings the country to a halt!!!
I left Ashford yesterday morning to deliver in Glenrothes so I saw most of the conditions up the East Coast.
The further south was the problem with drivers who didn’t have a clue and seemed to think they didn’t need lights, extra space or to allow more time. The A1 was clear as a bell above Newcastle.
I blame the one eyed Scottish idiot
It amazes me how and WHY PEOPLE drive WITHOUT any lights in this weather, really does,
I had a link to a YouTube video I saw yday showin a Scania drivin around a roundabout at full speed in this weather, its now been removed, didnt anybody see it ?
He made the fatal mistake of showin another video called SCANIA TEST DRIVE, showin his face and the name of the company and it was ARCHBOLD!!!
Thats now been removed too!
He was flyin round roundabouts at 40+ mph laden!
The White Scania Highline he was drivin was even quicker, comin round the bend almost vertical!
any ARCHBOLDS drivers on here you must know who it is ?
The Vid was taken near Leeds / M1 way by the looks of it, hes lucky he didnt hit anythin!!!
I blame the one eyed Scottish idiot
you’ll have to apologise now ref: Clarkson

One of them was stuck on the A361/A5 roundabout by Kilsby on thursday, he’d gone in, got stuck been pulled out by a tractor and turned around and then slid off the roundabout on his way back out.
No that wasnt him, Ive edited me post, this guy in a white R series Highline thought he was at Brands Hatch, his sidekick was filmin him comin round the Roundabout with the Rear end comin towards him whilst filmin,
If ye read my amended post He made the fatal mistake of showin another video called SCANIA TEST DRIVE, showin his face and the name of the company!!!

I’m betting him and his mate have been removed too… from the payroll.
I’m amazed to see that people still find it suprising that our country has to take a few days off when there’s bad weather.
The biggest reason as to why we suffer so much in this country is clear to see, this amount of snow rarely ever happens in the south and we’re not prepared for it - and we never will be as it’s not worth our while. So it’s one of those things we just need to accept. This kind of snowfall tends to only hit the south every eighteen years, so if for one or two weeks in every eighteen years we have to drive less or go to work less then I don’t see it as much of a problem. If you do get frustrated that you can’t get where you want to, there’s one thing that you can do and that’s to go out and buy winter tyres. The reason why people here don’t have them is that this amount of snowfall is very uncommon, and it doesn’t make financial sense to invest in them. In countries on the continent that are more regularly affected by snow, everyone is legally obliged to have them and the traffic runs pretty much fine.
They don’t salt roads in Scandanavia, maybe a plough now and again, but they don’t need salt as they have winter tyres. Out there they rely on individual common sense, not relying on their local council so save the day although I do think that here, there could be more common sense on our councils behalf. For example, gritting around junctions and the gradients so that vehicles can climb them without getting stuck and blocking up the road, and leaving the level bits where vehicles can cope if driven in a sensible manner. It’s unreasonable to expect them to have every road gritted as it’s logistically impossible.
This is not about weather, more about personal attitude.
Have to agree!! My neighbour[a civil servant] said she couldn’t get to work yesterday. I drove past her place of work, down to Bedwas and up to Leeds
Won’t pretend I enjoyed it much as I was in a car but I have never failed to work because of snow.
Woman on news last night “My car skidded earlier, its terrible, I’m just trying to take my child to nursery, I’m thinking of turning round and going home”. Skidding? You don’t say?
She couldn’t walk he kid to nursery then?
Another bloke was praised as a ‘hero’ for walking five miles to work! The media whip a lot of this up. In North Wales we’ve had very little snow, I know the South has been hit with a fair dollop. However, Friday morning they had less snow than expected down south wales- the woman reading the news looked GUTTED!
