Why does no one care about trailers?

Thinking back a couple of years, the worst one i ever had was an old VanHool tri axle tilt, loaded so it looked like a barrage balloon, two completely worn out tyres, one rear light unit ripped off, tilt ripped in several places and one leg bent forward about 30 degrees! That lot certainly didnt happen overnight. Picked it up and it went straight over to the hauliers workshop they used at Reims, took around 6hrs to put right just to get it road legal…

Doubt it would be a Cargo Care tilt…more like a Euroliner, and Portbridge were taken over by P&O about 12 yrs ago.

I meant a Ewals, complete with flappy back.

Yeh it would be a Euroliner.
They exported their tilts to Russia so we thought that would be the last we saw of them.
The Russians re.furbished them (allegedly :unamused: ) sold them to a Euro hire co…who hired them to Ewals :unamused:

Even got your frilly curtains up in that RobRoy :stuck_out_tongue: Did you finally get round to fitting them in your new unit?

Well spotted  .
Never go anywhere without them mate.
Been a poofy curtain addict/user for ages  …, that pic was about 2003.

I had a reprieve of possibly the worst trailer I’d ever seen in my life a couple of years back. An old Welton North Sea lines heap of scrap. Must’ve been 20 years old. I hopped up on the cat walk, still cursing under my breath at the thought of pulling the sheets up and over the top in the ■■■■■■■ down rain, when fortunately for me, as I pushed the palm coupling down, off snapped the part on the bulkhead. A quick phone call for a fitter, and I was told to drop it and pick up a new coblefret euroliner. Result

Radar,

You’ll get used to it fella…just kick the tyres and crack on. Most issues can be sorted with brut force, bodge tape or a spare bulb!! On the DFDS fleet, my heart sinks if I pick up a Halens or Speed-Cargo trailer, now they have defo had a tough life and you know you’re in for a wrestle with the curtains and the barn doors may fall off when you open them!!

Any small haulier I’ve ran for pulling DFDS kit always want you to take photos when you pick up / drop the trailer to prove no damage and boards and straps are tidy otherwise they get hit with a fine from DFDS which is taken out of the already poor rates, so if the driver has abused the trailer there could be zero profit for the subby…for this reason I think the majority of the poor condition of trailers is just because of the sheer volume of work they do across Europe.

Hope your class 1 adventure is going well!!

Pandoro trailers,mobile prohibitions!

They re.newed most of their Euro trailers around 08 which is at the time I was pulling them so I had no probs, however the older P&O Irish ones were another story. :unamused:
