Unfortunately land cost is the problem and overpopulation isn’t helping whilst via immigration the population increases uncontrollably year on year to add to the problems, leading to more cars and lorries to service the increase running on the same underdeveloped road network with a complete lack of facilities.
I’m working a lot of weekends with my shift patterns now and the sheer volume of cars on the motorways is staggering, go into a MSA on a weekend its like a bloody football match has descended.
UK is a bloody pint pot and they’ve poured a quart of people in and adding more constantly under pressure…it’ll all blow up in their faces one day, good.
Completely agree with everything robinhood says.
Driver’s rest periods are enforced to avoid fatigue (allegedly ) how can you be fresh in a morning when being chucked about by passing trucks all night, and sleeping with one eye open wondering if your fuel and/or load is getting nicked in an unlit lay by. There are also H&S issues concerning lack of toilets and the risk of getting your head caved in when a truck runs into your sleeper cab.
The problem is that providing proper truck parks on the edge of towns is not a vote winner for any political parties, such places are thought of in the same category as designated gipsy sites by our friendly public, so we continue to be ignored or looked upon and treat like a neccessary evil.
