Why are so many drivers elderley

hgvhgv:
They are all aged because nobody will give the fresh blood a chance :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d say that’s a fair point too.

Well, there’s plenty of drivers in their 50s who are out of work too. I’ve probably only worked for 50% of the last two years and they have been the most godawful jobs. I’m out of work again now and putting my own truck on the road because the only person I can find to employ me is myself.

If I ever put a second truck on the road, I’ll give you first refusal, ok?

Dads’ worked for same firm for 34 years and has had his artic for 10 years on quarry work. Now, with a shiny new motor on the horizon he was told on Friday he’s being taken off his Foden and it will be based at head office on the same job he’s done since the lorry was new. Experience counts for nowt we’re all liable to be crapped on from a great height.

I’m 22… Fact!

I took my tractor licence at 16, my car licence at 17, my trailer (behind a van) licence at 18, my c1 at 18 my c1+e at 19, my c at 20 and my c+e at 20. This as well as all the theory tests and a medical.

I took my national and international Cpc’s last year and passed the international this April.

I also have my hiab, 360,180, tracked loading shovel, forward tipping dumper, roller and agricultural vehicle Cpcs licences.

I drive hook loader drag combination, and an artic with hiab. I’m also our transport manager and run our natural sports pitch jobs.

I work for a family firm and have been lucky to have most of my tests paid for, i haven’t been pushed, just always took an opportunity when it arose.

Air traffic controller?

Ibson: Do you operate a tracked loader? Getting rare to see one that’s not on a landfill.

Yes we have a cat 953c that we bought about 5 years back, I cover the driver on a Friday, he’s semi retired and likes a long weekend lol. It’s got a 4 in 1 bucket and a ripper too. We have laser equipment on it for levelling pitches.

I’m not sure if I can do this? But here’s our website if you wanted a gander at some of the kit:

Might stick to something truck related :stuck_out_tongue: it’s what I love the most.

Our lot have one they bought new mid '90s. The driver changes his shoes to drive it. He drives a Volvo 360 too which is about 8 years old and mint which takes work from the 953. It’s doing it’s first job since September at the mo.

They are great to drive! Our main driver looks after ours great too. It does get a bit boring driving plant all the time though, I prefer moving it about, although it is a bit dirty sometimes!

What firm do you work for?

Smiths Bletchington. Done a thread on Old Time Forum.

Fair play to ya mate, I love seeing younger peeps getting stuck in. Could be a thought for the no experience/no job situation that others find themselves in. Working your way up and all that.

Cool, they look pretty tidy.

Thanks. I hope things pick up in this industry, I’d like to see some better wages and for it to regarded as more of a profession. I’d like eventually to become an owner operator but need funds and some better work lined up. For now it’s knuckling down and doing whatever pays the money for the bills and the baby we have on the way!

Lol it’s not all work… Although, as I’m sure you know it can feel that way sometimes!

I’ve had a couple of great lads holidays, trips abroad and plenty of maybe to wild nights out, it just seems the last 2 years I have been thrown into the deep end! Maybe that’s what the marriage has done to me :stuck_out_tongue:
