Who has given you a chance?

Passed cat c , a year ago . Approached a local family run general haulage co ,and got a start on a w reg 8 wheel tipper , now mainly drive the hook lift skip truck . ocassionally flat beds or multilift 4 wheeler skip trucks .
Mostly local work but done a couple of trips into london with 20’ containers which was good experience and something different .
They have bought 5 additional tractor units since i have been there and they did say they would put me thru my cat c +e test which would be great but obviously i would be tied into them for 2 years …

All the best with finding work , grab what ever is offered !it all goes towards your 2 years experience then you can think about moving on .

cheers Mike

Hi Dean,

No mate, they have the MC for that Multi combination … like a class 1 plus 1 if that makes sense … WTT??

what is that … i just [zb] that i cant see new series of eddie stobart lol

how is first getting on ■■

Oh yeah. Ignore me getting carried away lol.

I read up about HC then linked to MC and then had it in my head you had MC. Any plans of upgrading?

First is still a go as soon as CRB check comes back. Just twiddling my thumbs ATM. Grrr

Maybe, will get the MC, but i think it is not fair there MC is basically our C+E ie you can pull a broken down unit and trailer on a tow truck over here on our C+E, so in effect a road train … they look like just bigger W&D over here … personally I want to get into the police over here … will do one day when i can afford to not work for a year to do the uni course lol … what was that WTT programme?

WTT - World’s Toughest Trucker.

As it has a staggered rollout on different programme networks, it may still be running over there.

It finished here 10 days ago.

Good luck with getting on with the police.

I was a Steel Erector Foreman, decided i’d had enough of it and put in for my HGV licences.
Passed my class 2 in the December and Class 1 the following May without any driving inbetween, have still never driven a rigid except when i did my training/test.
I was working on the new Home Office building in Westminster at the time, after passing my class 1 i just used to ask the lorry drivers delivering to site whether they knew of vacanices,i used to ring everyone that i could, whether they were local or not, eventually a container driver delivering overpriced furniture for the overpaid ministers gave me the number to his firm Hanbury Davies(sadly Wincanton now)
I rang the bloke up,went to see him in Tilbury after work one night,he seemed happy enough with me,got a driving assesment in Southampton the following saturday (as that was nearest depot to me)and was offered the job…it was September by this time, work was pretty plentiful then but it still took me 3/4 months for someone to give me a break.
I hit loads of things in the 6 or so months i was there, but they kept their faith in me  …went back to steel erecting for a bit as my missus was preggers with my 2nd child and needed to be at home,i’d had a taste for driving though and only lasted 5 months back on the steel,Hanburys didn’t have anything but they managed to get me a job at Deben Transport where i stayed for a year
It was thanks to these 2 companies giving me a chance that gave me my 2 years experience,i then went onto Maritime where i worked for just over 4 years…now i do curtainsiders on general haulage, best job i’ve ever had.

Builders merchant that i knew well gave me a start on rigids then when i passed my trailer test they let me drive their artic but that was only for a month, i was gutted at the thought of coming off it so called a couple of companies and now working for another firm on permenant class 1.

Only companies I haven’t tried around here are builders merchants cause of the HIAB, I don’t have that and don’t have the money to do it either.

Call them, they’ll more than likely train you up themselfs regardless if you’ve got a crane ticket or not, certainly the case where i worked. They had two agency drivers there who done about 6months with them, they were then taken on full time and had to do crane training on the very lorries they’d already been using.

sam, have you tried Stan Wardrop in stewarton, he,s got a couple of cat c and 2/3 artics and he,s a resonable guy, worth a call if you hav,nt tried already.
