I don’t mean to brag but I did win driver of the month for August 2008 on my place which clearly puts me firmly at the top of any best driver table…you lot can fight it out amongst yourselves for 2nd place.
Can’t see any difference re nationality, those who have an ability and take a pride will do the job well, those who have neither won’t.
It makes sense that those who have driven in their own countries and on their own side of the road from childhood will have an advantage at home (where road and behavioural customs are long learned), whether they have the nous or work pride to continually improve their driving is another question.
Just winding.
It’s still us though.,
An irish man we always figure a way out of a mess, I don’t think they do recovery.

Personally I think it’s us.
Always was!Yeah right, anything else Mr. superior
Passing test on auto’s and heaving reverse cameras on exam counts for “we are the best”■■? Not knowing how to drive on snow, preventing the air in your brakes from freezing or put snow chains counts for the best? Or may be the bridge strike I see daily here are made by foreigners only and no Brits are involved…
There are good and bad drivers everywhere. I could add, where is law and order there is good drivers.
Why don’t you come in EE and see how western Europeans(from the title) drive, knowing cops are corrupted and the laws are not adequate enough.
Brits especially drive drunk or on drugs. Not only that but airplanes had made emergency landings in Sofia to take off the plane drunk people, who I bet drive vehicles in UK.
So, what make’s you better drivers then the Dutch for example?
With reference your comment about Brits drink driving the UK has long been way ahead of the rest of Europe in its attitude to drink driving in both laws and public attitude don’t think there are to many European countries where DUI results in an 18 month ban when I lived in Germany in the 90’s punishment for DUI was usually a month ban which could be taken within a certain time frame so you could spend two weeks of the ban on holiday in Spain then take two weeks sick and then return to work as if nothing had happened. Despite the atrocious standards of driving in the UK for whatever reason they are still the safest in Europe in terms of accidents per population or miles driven. Just drive round the periphrique on a Friday or Saturday in the early hours guaranteed to see at least one drunk driver

That’s gone nowMores the pity - There would be a few more holes in the hedge if they were still using it - but then again the amount of “new laybays” on the Annan straight at the minute it makes you wonder .
Now!
Irish men don’t just drive on the 75 do they?It was an irish truck that went in at the Peat farm last week ? wasn’t it ? And the week before . I’m not on it as regularly as I used to be but I have to say its in a bad way . The surface is terrible and the amount of "verge running "is downright scary. If you can’t get to the end of the 75 wiithout off roading or sleeping you need to be sleeping on the boat and not throwing £20 notes into the poker machines .
Doesn’t necessarily mean that it was an Irish driver tho
The best drivers are those that only have a class 2 license. They have never done a night out. They are terrified of MSA’s, and allergic to general haulage.
At least that’s what my mum tells me…
Oh yeah, and the best drivers are never ever from an agency or a different culture or country
the irish from the north and the south still have a mindset for the way trucking has aways been.from cameradrie between fellow drivers to a complete disregard as much as possible to driving hours and rules, and just simply getting on with the job without the tosco/agency beancounting h&s aspect of life.so in that respect then my vote goes to anyone that works like that.theres still a good bit of craic over here and running to and from the boats in speeds well in excess of the limiter.sadly anything like that has long gone from normal uk operations apart from the occasional hooligan.unless your abroad, then working in gridlock uk don’t have much fun or job satisfaction left, and that’s without being treated like dung wherever your tipping.euroland is still a different world where conditions are extremely superior.
Yes, the Irish lads still look out for one another too, as do most other nationalities especially their working classes, i like that, something the English lost many years ago (brainwashed and bought out of them) and English working class people are worse off for it…i’m half Irish by the way so have no axe to grind here.
the Spanish because there all EXCELLENT at reversing. …not ?
The best drivers are clearly the sort who know nothing other than being limited to 50-52mph within a 100 mile radius, dropping trolleys at the same risk assessed store drops & calling the fire brigade when the tail lift breaks.
They always know best.
Deeireland:
Seriously though. √
IMO the British are some of the worst drivers, all categories.

WTF? - How do you work that out?
Look back at my initial comment, I’d say that the question is pointless for 2 reasons.
1, Every country is likely to be biased towards their own drivers.
2, There are good and bad in all countries, fact!
So please do explain how you think you’ve touched a nerve…
(I can’t wait to hear this! )

Sounds like you were attacking me as per, I was just asking…

2, I agree.

the cameradrie is definitely still there in Ireland…where else could you go out for a night on the tap.run out of money, strangers would buy you drink al night, when your bladdered and have no means of getting home, they would have no hesitation in inviting you home with them via the chinkys for a bit of grub, firing more drink into you,and when you chat them up a wee bit, take you to bed and plough your brains out, giving you a good breakfast and a few quid for a taxi in the morning…
personally ive never been in that situation, but my sister was on a night out in Dublin and she tells me that’s the way it works down there…
I think we all have a lot to offer regardless of the nationality. Some are good…some are bad…some are terrible…some shouldnt even have a licence. they say if you can drive in london, you can drive anywhere, thats not true today…Paris wants a lot of beating especially in the rush hour, but each to their own i suppose. Agency drivers, same as above, some are ex trampers, some ex european drivers, and joined an agency for their own reasons…newbies, have a lot to learn, but can still be good drivers…amongst the best are those who take pride in their jobs, and amongst the worst are those who took their test in a farm tractor with a farm trailer ( you know the ones ) and then let loose on a 44 tonner, with a steering wheel on the opposite side to the ones they are used to, and get a job driving over here, you can tell those by the damage to the nearside.

And the ones that drive between rdcs are better are they?
