RDC work is not that bad, I sometimes have a 2 or 3 hour tip. MY longest tip is United Wholesale Maxwell Road, Glasgow, what a ■■■■ this place is, parking on the road, rude ■■■■■■■■ Indian ■■■■ on the forklift, I don’t swear a lot but I did avoid at all costs - 6 hours

This has to be a wind-up thread…If not, then it will be another place that is killing the haulage industry because of the petty rules and regs.
This is the problem and the more drivers that actually roll over and let this happen the worse it will get,
Do supermarket home delivery drivers get searched when they leave someone’s house?
Do they get made to wait in the shed while the customers check there goods and keep the keys so he can’t enter his vehicle? No and if enough folk stopped sucking up to these jobsworth idiots it would stop…

Just finished another nightshift, and as I was leaving our depot…witnessed yet another argument/shouting match between some
of our security/gatemen and a visiting driver! Most of our security/gatemen are ok with our drivers…although one or two can be awkward…but a few of them seem to take
great delight in winding up visiting drivers to our depot. Visiting drivers that come into our driver’s room often complain about the
treatment that they receive from our security/gatemen.They are not all jobsworths, but a few seem to get “high” on the power that they have to tell visiting drivers to “go away…you can’t come in drive”…when the other driver is only slightly early for his timeslot …(there’s nowhere to park a truck within a mile or two of the depot!).
A few seem to also enjoy doing extended random cab searches…when they know that the driver is in a rush to get away. One in particular seems to get a proper thrill out of giving some visiting drivers a thorough “search and pat down”…all in the name of security…of course!!
If I was driving for another firm, I must admit that I would not really look forward to visiting our depot.
Which are the RDC’s that you hate visiting the most??..and the RDC’s that have the most jobsworth security/gatemen??
Do you have anything on your site that could be hidden on a person? Strictly speaking, a pat down that you haven’t consented to is assault. Any male staff attempting to pat down a female would be lucky to escape a ■■■■■■ assault charge.
Being treated this way, pat downs, bolshy forkies, A hole security, 6 hour tips…however do you lot doing these RDC’s put up with it??
Being treated like youre something dirty on the bottom of their shoes is so wrong…

I’m sure your correct that a female having a search can insist on a female doing it. In the interests of equality can I (a man) insist on the same?

I grin & bear a lot of crap in this job, but no way on earth would I allow some RDC plastic policeman to lay their mits on me for a pat down.
Are there drivers out there actually consenting to this?
Amazon Rugeley is one of the worst places I have experienced for tipping. Book in and get handed a pager and told to vegetate in your cab, if you manage to get on a bay before your planner pulls you out it’s then 2-3 hours (sometimes longer) on a plastic chair in a grubby waiting room.

It has been a while, since I have been on general haulage . . thank frec.
Crikey, it has been a while the place burnt down 20 odd years ago.
What is wrong with people where they get a kick out of annoying others, when you visit my place you just press the intercom you get given a bay number, you then get to wait in a comfortable waiting room with a pool table TV and subsidised vending machines, you can use the showers and the staff canteen if you want, always been the same for drivers, being treated like an inconvenience.
I done a delivery to Winson Green prison a few months ago, got asked for permission for a pat down search on the way in and out, the female security guard was such a stunner how could i say no . The lorry search was exceptional, they looked underneath with mirrors, a ladder up the side to look on the roof, lift the bonnet, a full cab search. Had to hand over all electronic items, all charge leads, all road maps. But as a couple of the inmates helped unload I can understand why.

I had a delivery of concrete lintels to Long Lartin prison once and they wanted me to take absolutely every single last thing out of the cab which would have taken me all morning so I refused. They said that in that case I couldn’t make my delivery so I gave them the old “Is my face bovvered?” routine. Eventually they sent two prisoners out with a female screw to handball the lintels off. They told me they were due for release in a very short time so the screws knew they wouldn’t run away.
I knew it would probably be highly illegal to give them any tobacco so I slipped them a two-ounce pouch of Belgium’s finest duty-free Old Holborn when the screw wasn’t looking.
I don’t do rdc work. That was my solution to the problem.
ASDA Bedford silly plump blondie type is a hoar !
Just found a copy of our staff handbook in a drawer at home…with all the rules and regulations!
Company Rights of Search
The Company reserves the right to carry out random searches and checks on any persons, property or vehicles at any
time, whilst they are on the Company’s premises. This includes all direct employees, agency employees, third party
sub-contractors and site visitors.
It is understood that these checks and searches do not imply suspicion in relation to the individual concerned.
Whilst any individual has the right to refuse to be searched, refusal can constitute a breach of contract which could
result in dismissal. In the case of third party sub-contractors and site visitors, refusal could result in permanent
exclusion from Company sites.
…So for those asking…there you have it! You can refuse a search…but if you do, you will most probably be
permanently banned from the RDC!

Langdons at Redditch has to have the most miserable staff in the country all other Langdons seem to want to tip you and get you away yet Redditch seems the opposite from the shunter who thinks he is some sort of camp commandant to the office staff who can’t see 7 drivers standing outside of their window and to top it of today one of the goods in staff just flounced out halfway through dealing with a driver due to a comment made by another office staff member, must be a great place to work.
I had a lucky escape when sent into there from Dover then. I just used to swap trailers out in the service road, took my 45, and set back off again. I don’t even recall entering the premises proper to use the gents…
(Got into the habit of taking the 45 at Hopwood MSA)
This was also the only duty I ever had where I got stones thrown at my cab, breaking the side window and showering me with glass. Langdons were not happy that I insisted upon putting it through the police, whilst still booking my by-the-hour agency rate for the 15 hour shift I eventually ended up doing that night.
…And no. I wasn’t driving a Scania.
This is why I do steel work…although some Tata sites can be awkward buggers…and S10 at Seaforth is like the land that time forgot…like going back to the 70’s with their working practices…
But on the whole, don’t have to endure any of the petty power trips from Security gatehouses etc…
Headlum , Coleshill.
Hell on earth!

The guy on the out gate at Sainsbury’s Borehamwood takes some beating for attitude. He objected to my company issue steel toe capped trainers, when I offered to kick him in his ■■■■■■ with them to prove they were steelies he reported me for threatening him.Only once had bother at Tesco Donny and that was when I refused to let a security guard into my lorry to search it on the way out. He told me that I had agreed to them terms when I entered the site, I asked him to show me my signature to that effect. I finally offered to let him in if in return he gave me the keys to his house so I in turn could search that.
U didn’t threaten him u offered a practical demonstration to prove u did in fact have steel toecaps

Are they actually allowed to pat you down? Police need special powers for that. What gives minimum wage jumped up security man the right to do it without consent? Surely the fact I’m doing my job by being on the sight doesn’t automatically mean I have to consent to a pat down? Especially if I’ve not been told before I enter the site
If they lay a hand on you without permission it’s technically assault. So lay the idiot out and claim self defence .

Only ever done a Superdrug/Savers RDC and that was enough for me .
Proctor and Gamble at Seaton Delaval is about the most miserable bunch I have had to deal with more than once .
Stupid auto wheel bars on their bays that damage side bars on 7.5t . So told them it wouldn’t go on a bay .
Can’t unload it then they say after ignoring me for 3 hrs .
Told him he had better check as it’s on a 24hr delivery from Eastern Europe. By the time I got back to the truck a forkie was waiting .
Next time I went it was another urgent out of hours delivery but security wouldn’t let me in the gate !
Customer on the phone who got a very direct reply to the question "where are you "
Companies used to have to pay big money for our service ,running urgent double manned and non stop relay runs to get their stuff on time and prevent production delays .
Then some numpty or jobsworth tries their best to disrupt it . They usually end up looking very foolish .

I’ve only ever done that place once, having to park across the road in a side street waiting to get in is poor, but it made my day when the dwarf prison officer walked out the Office with a step ladder so he could climb up to reach the gate to unlock it. Apparently the length of the keychain has to be kept so that if the keys are hanging down freely they cannot touch the floor
Prisons atm are a regular occurrence for me running supplies in/out for the prisoner canteen, so getting patted down is a daily occurrence.
