Where is this?
Longshot but looks like Grace Dieu Priory in Leicestershire.
You are absolutely right old lad.
When I was small, I had a set of grandparents in the Midlands, my mam’s from Birmingham. So a journey between the north east and Birmingham was not unusual back then.
Now this was before the M42/A42 was even a twinkle in someone’s eye and we used to travel from Tamworth (more relatives) via the then A453 (now B5493) through Ashby and then the A512 to the M1. Going that way you pass the ‘old manor house’ which was one of our landmarks as kids. As an adult wagon driver I couldn’t for the life of me remember where it was until not so long ago I passed it dodging a queue on the A42. I recognised it straightaway!!
I remember seeing that back in my biker days long before motorways were built around that area. I’m sure we used to camp somewhere near there next to a river but I cannot remember where.
