I also have H Cat, so I am prime for moving tracked construction equipment to Motorway Roadworks etc on nights which is more money, including STGO work for the heavier stuff. , but despite that, hard to get into and is a case of who you know. I think there are only two places in the country that do H Cat training now. Anyone who fancies doing low loader construction vehicle transport, it’s worth getting. Tanks-A-lot between Bicester and Northampton will get you through it in 3 days but at a cost. When I did my test, it was in an FV432, but now I believe its in a tracked construction vehicle due to DVSA dictating what vehicle they have to take the test in.
I’ve never come across anyone with cat h in the industry.
I’d quite fancy it but certainly ain’t paying for it and I’ll never get it paid for. I’ve never been asked for it to load or unload on any site of any time but do have loader securer qualifications.
I’ve no doubt it’s the sort of nonsense that joint venture projects would dictate despite machines being on closed section of roads so not driving license not required. Otherwise all the 360s would have number plates.

I have to say when I was moving plant on and off the M25 widening project at Watford, I was not cat h qualified nor was I asked for any certs. Is this a new thing?

if the road is closed and is classed as a site, then yes you can drive it without a H Licence. If the road is open however, it is then a public highway and Cat H is then required. I got it through the Military.

What does a lane or 2 coned off get classed as? closed or public highway?
Get experience, get good, learn the rules and regs, then look to get into something specialist or own account, or ideally both.
3 of my last 4 jobs have been own account, the last 2 both being a form of specialising too and head and shoulders above any previous jobs

if it’s classed as a site, as with most longer term motorworks, then no, its classed as offroad. If its temporarily coned off for a few hours then yes, you should then require a H Cat, although its not always enforced. I have had to offload tracked vehicles onto an open road before, due to tight access issues.
So bit of an update,
Day 3 went fine. Actually pretty good as we made good progress. No drama, back to depot and off home.
Day 4 which was today, am driving again. Got to Manchester city centre, made the first few drops and the next one on the sheet is Arndale centre.
I’ve only driven into there once before which was on day 3, ok no probs but it is a bit tight at the barrier.
Spoke to the guys at the transport office, ready to set off (and I don’t know if they are) but the yellow barriers feel off centre to me. Unbeknownst to me, am too close to the transport office so when I go to steer a bit towards the right to centre myself for the barriers, I’ve clipped the corner of the hub and scraped the truck.
Now am kinda stuck/wedged up against the corner of the roof. Can’t reverse because that ramps downhill and got these small speed bumps and theres traffic queued up all the way back. Can’t full lock left because of the ■■■■ barrier. Only way is forward and drag it forward and to the left.
Oops. So the money is in not damaging the truck!
God I hate driving round Manchester but it’s a good learning curve. Apart from this incident today, I felt like I was improving, well until 7am today anyways!
Well it happens, learn from it, dont get too cocky.
I hate the arndale centre security are useless point you to right loading area but finding the shop is a joke.
Same as any shopping centre there just a maze of walkways and.lifts.
Wouldt. Be to bad if they had some kind of map.
