Where were you when elvis popped his clogs

primary school

I was 14 yrs old and on my paper round,as I pulled out a customers paper I saw ELVIS THE KING OF ROCK,N,ROLL IS DEAD,that was 1977,he had some good music but king of rock and roll, doubt it, there were better,as regards Diana I was driving solo down the M1at 2am after dropping a trailer up north,i eventually got home [still living at home with my parents then ]my mum came downstairs and said hello,i replied ALLRIGHT MUM,DIANA WONT BE NEEDING BODYGUARDS ANYMORE,my mum replied why,i said she is dead, jesus talk about a scream,i never realised my mum was such a royalist, the scream nearly deafened me,i felt so guilty afterwards, had to sit her down and make her a cuppa and apologise about the way I told her,

I was sat in the back bit of a Mini pick up (perfectly acceptable way to travel in them days  ) when my bro in law who was driving pulled over to tell me as he’d just heard it on his radio (right next to his 8 track). Meant nowt to me at the time btw.

When Elvis popped his clogs, I was mostly eating these…

Me too and delivering nice steaming loads for my parents :grimacing:

As for when Dianna died the queen was on the phone (saying do it )

Was on holiday in Turkey when Di died
The hotel we were in set up a remembrance book in a kind of a shrine with pics of her etc. They were a bit surprised that most simply kept on with the beer and sunbathing etc.
No idea where I was when Elvis left the building, I was never a great fan of his.

I was working at Waitrose, Leighton Buzzard when Elvis Died & was really surprised that some of the Women were Balling their Eyes out [emoji23]
The night Diana decided to wear that Merc Engine on her Lap, I was doing the Sunday Express from West Ferry Printers on the Isle of Dogs to Slough (round the North Circular) they held the press for a couple of hours as it happened around midnight.
I remember all the bridges over the M1 were full of People the following week as they brought her body up the Motorway to Althorpe House, Northampton.
Very Sad Day [emoji22].

When it was announced Elvis had turned his Blue Suede Shoes skywards I was working in the quarry garage, with Di (a Sunday morning) I was loading my trailer up to go to a vintage vehicle event at Calverton.

Elvis … this was a strange one for me, I would have only been 14-15 sort of had my first girl friend, went back to her house and both her parents were in tears,(seriously weird) then we went back to mine and my parents were sort of all quiet going on about this “Elvis” bloke ! he just looked like a fat old bloke to us. It wasn’t until my 40’s that I realised just how good he was, big fan now,

Dianna … They cancelled the Liverpool Newcastle game, had been looking forward to it all week, so annoyed about that. I still don’t quite get why it was such big news, meant nothing to me,

it meant nothing to most folk, just media hype for the lemmings and it was popular to be affected…the same sanctimonious fannys that would have spent 20 or 30 quid on a bunch of flowers to fling on the pavement are the same ones that wouldn’t give some starving dosser 50p for a cup of tea who would be sleeping on the same pavement.at the end of the day,she was just another cokehead celebrity that got too big for her boots, and obviously the last straw for her sticking 2 fingers up at old betty was the thought that she would eventually have had non pink mongrel kids that would have been a ■■■■ relation to the crown, hence, goodnight and thanks. they listened to the in car recorder thing from the merc, and dodis last words to the driver were…ffs I told you I wanted to f k di in the tunnel, not ■■ n di in the tunnel…anyhoooo everyone keeps going on about how much of a good samaritin she was with her campaigning for all the landmines and stuff to be dug up and disposed off… I had 4 mates in Glasgow that worked for a company making artificial limbs, and they all got made redundant when the factory went bust…not so good for them!!! :unamused:

Just flown into London from Bulgaria.

Having a bite to east on the edgeware road and got a paper to read, thats how I found out pre internet days

I got married the day after Elvis popped his clogs, no sad loss in my eyes. A fellow I worked with didnt speak to me for a week after I once said elvis was crap, that was no sad loss either!
