When companies give you a crap address

The best one I had was an industrial estate in Glasgow which (while correct) was full of small units. Sounds simple enough but fortunately for me, the place has a security guard who looked at my lines and pointed out the fact that I had a persons name and not a company name. I had to open the trailer to see what I was delivering so he could narrow it down a bit. 4 possible units who would order a radiator and the first one I tried was the right one :unamused:

It is crazy the amount of drops you get with out of date paperwork showing the wrong company names and addresses…
Fine for an experienced driver who knows the regular drops that are wrong, but obviously infuriating for Newbies!
But when you tell the office/admin that the details are wrong on the system, do they update them? Do they [zb]! :imp:
OK it might be details on another companies systems, but phones and email do exist people! :unamused:
I guess as it doesn’t directly effect them, they just don’t care…

Some years back, a mate of mine got asked to run from Bolton with one drop in Glasgow dock. So he sets off early doors. Sure enough, he’s got the company name and address on his notes. Arrives somewhere near Clydebank and starts to scratch his head a bit.

Eventually he calls the office. Fifteen minutes later comes the reply: sorry, it’s a typing error, should say ‘Glassen dock’ !

We frequently deliver the large fridge units to new Wilko stores. We get given the address, which is typically…Wilko, “this town” Shopping Centre followed by a postcode. the postcode is inevitably in the middle of a large shopping centre or mall affair, and we have to suss out the loading bays. Many times I have rung our transport office and asked them to ring the store to find out where I’m supposed to go on the myriad of one way/weight restricted streets in a town centre, and many times I’m told “head to the mall/plaza or whatever and it’s sign posted”. Cheers, you’ve been a great help!

I can’t see why people on hourly rates get so wound up over wrong addresses. Been there, done that, sometimes miles away from the yard and it’s never bothered me. If I can’t find a place because of crap addresses, ring up… yes, even before we had mobiles, find a phone box and put it back on them. I have to say though that we never had the sort of trouble that happens nowadays, because of what someone said earlier, common sense when they gave us an address.

Wrong addresses and postcodes, are a daily occurrence at our place, I use Google then call to confirm.
I once drove from Warrington I was told to head for Carnforth, I got to Lancaster services to ask the office for the full postcode, she said “LL55…” I stopped her and told her that was a Welsh postcode code, she said “yes?” I told her she has sent me North to Carnforth. She laughed as said " oh I did dint I, I always get caernarfon and Carnforth mixed up" :open_mouth:

It doesn’t wind me up Peter, it just infuriates me that the whole issue is illogical! :open_mouth:
Correct information saves time and money, as does intelligent or experienced drivers. But do companies value this? Do they [zb]…
Instead they pay FTW’s that are efficient a pittance, and ■■■■ all profits up the wall with crap expensive limpers… :unamused:
P.S. Can I have a leach please, in the form as an agency margin? :open_mouth:

You’re not wrong, but as long as they’re paying the bills, bugger it. If they didn’t have all these c**k ups, they could have another roller in the garage.

God forbid if they gave us some of those ‘Efficiency Profits’ in bonus’s [emoji57]

The one chap I subbed for recently really was pi$$ poor at organising his delivery schedules…AM drops were left til last, PM drops first, people expecting stuff for a Friday getting it on a thursday etc… made me giggle…

Yet he still manages a successful business. I’ve offered to take over the delivery schedules for him simply because I hated dealing with the fall out of his rubbish planning!

I was once given a crap address for a delivery from Allied Glass in Leeds it was to go to near sutton Scotney services just off the A34 I stopped at Brackley Thursday night and got down to my drop for 8am and it didn’t look good as there was no factory or RDC for 52 pallets of glass just a couple of thatch roof cottages.
I asked a DPD delivery driver of so and so was here and he said yes and pointed me into the direction of one of the lovely cottages. A nice woman comes out and asked what I was delivering to them, I replied “52 pallets of glass love but I’m guessing you haven’t got a forklift or ouwt to get them off with?”
Turns out I had been given the address for the offices and the delivery should’ve been going to there yard… In Wrexham :open_mouth:  It’s a good job I could get upto Wrexham and back to our yard in Barnsley in my time otherwise it would’ve been going back to our yard and I couldn’t give 3 ■■■■■ what they would’ve said or asked me to do. There was no way I was having my weekend ■■■■■■ up through someone else’s ■■■■ up, if I had ■■■■■■ up then yes I’d accept it.

About 10yrs ago I got “the old barn pencader” no phone signal. The post office hadn’t heard of it. Same story at local shops. Now that was a challenge

Yep, I drove a crane truck for a timber yard delivering to a lot of builders on site. When I first started it was run like clockwork, then the son took over from his father and things went downhill rapidly. He couldn’t organise a root in a brothel and finished up losing so many builders that he went broke. All this in the space of a year.

what about an address for a feed mill in ST joseph Missouri.only 1250kms from where I am loading …me. what is the full address ? .dispatch -don’t have it just look around when you get there you will be closer than me :unamused: :unamused: .By chance it was right next to the truckstop I parked at for the night

Sometimes it works the other way around, I had started a new job, sort of, I’d actually sold my unit to a bloke and as I was between get rich quick schemes I ended up driving my old lorry, anyway there I was tipped in Milan and I stopped in a pull out by a big factory and used a payphone to call in for my reload, as the boss man started reading out the company name I noticed it was the same as the one on the factory I was parked outside, so I said don’t worry about the address, I know where that is, the bloke was well impressed and thought I was some kind of encyclopedia of Italy.

Back in the early 90s, I used to help my Brother on Law out (owner driver) covering his wagon while he was on holiday.
I collected a load of Bananas from Zeebrugge & had a delivery address in Kent, I drove down the road, missed the turning, because it looked dodgy, a steep ramp up to what looked like a big house, so I carried on for a couple of miles & found somewhere to turn round, went back to the house, stopped on the road & asked a random bloke if it was the correct address & do they have Artics delivering in there ? He confirmed that it was the correct address, so I took a punt & drove up the ramp (sweating like a Virgin in Valhalla) very tight !
Parked up next to the house & it was an office block, found the correct office & it turned out to be the Agent !!!
Muppets had put their address on the order & not the delivery address , turned out that the Nana’s were for Birmingham Fruit Market, due at midnight that night [emoji22]
Needless to say, my Analogue Taco Disc ‘Accidentally’ got lost that day [emoji6]

I totally agree with all said! And They wonder why us drivers get ■■■■■■■ because some pen pusher can’t be bothered to write down all available helpful information on how to find a business/property. I’ve been to businesses with no signage. … different names. … tiny signs with tiny writing… post codes no where near the destination. These are things the transport office staff could prep a bit better for their drivers. Just some simple questioning when booking the job would be an advantage.
