Whats your worst experience with everyday pedestrians?

Pedestrians have no concept of danger these days, they don’t look around them and are often in a world of their own listening to music on their ear pieces or mobile phones. They think that because they are on the pavement* nothing will happen to them and they are either looking down or just blindly looking ahead, enough not to walk into people.

They don’t understand the risks, they don’t look around and consider things and they don’t really care, they just want to get from A to B in their own way.

Thanks in part to the overuse of H&S with flashing lights, warning buzzers, tones and horns and other things to warn them the often don’t think or even understand how it will effect them. Those warning devices are now all but useless because no one takes any notice do they?

How many times have drivers here said ‘I got to the yard and couldn’t find anyone whilst wearing this hi-vis jacket but take it off and several appear at once to tell me off’

I’ve been in a HIAB this week, driving down narrow lanes and roads and have on numerous times in the dapple wooded area with sunbeams lancing through the leaves had my headlights on, mostly as I’m slightly over the white line to stop knocking the mirror out of alignment. The headlight is to warn those ahead but I have still had a few times when people have tried to squeeze past without thinking.

Then there are those numpties walking under the boom, ducking under red and white barrier tape just to save having to walk around the other side of the lorry. Reversing is no better either, and they just don’t care.

‘Oh, I didn’t see you there mate’ will no doubt be the response as you crush someone between a wall and your lorry. I have had a woman leave her pram sitting behind the lorry with the reversing buzzer on and walk around to ask me to turn it off as it’s hurting her child. Clearly the response of ‘well if your the one that left him there, I figured you wanted him crushed behind a reversing lorry’ didn’t get the response she wanted. Although thankfully I guess I was driving an unmarked white truck.

People want to get everywhere faster and quicker and without care.

Perhaps they should expand the subway and trains to insist people use those ONLY and leave the roads for the trucks but then they’d find some other way to [zb] us off, like a guy in front with a flag and a whistle to warn…

I am glad of lots of mirrors on modern trucks but we still all make mistakes don’t we. Unfortunately those who don’t care about such things walking by make more mistakes by just not caring…

Right, rant over. Sarnies to be made then off to work…

I was driving along the motorway one evening. Up ahead i saw a group of kids walking along the approaching motorway bridge. Suddenly, one young man swings up onto the parapet and starts to “tight-rope walk” along it. I passed underneath him without even having time to getting time to brake or swerve. I hope his friends were impressed. I was.

A driver I used to work with stopped at a set of lights
in London and an old man decided to rest his arm on
the centre axle of a tri axle fridge . The lights turned
to green and the driver checked his mirror and saw the
old man taking his hand from the wheel so he started to
drive away . Somehow the old fellas coat got caught on
the tyre and flipped him under the third axle , running
over and killing him .

There was no blame put on the driver but it affected
him for years to come .

Friday night yobbos…

You’re driving down a town street, and a group of maybe 3 of them has the middle one going “honk honk” with his outstretched arm, and the inside one then gives the outside one a hearty shove into the road just as I’m right on top of them…

I’m already on the wrong side of the road antiticpating this, but one day someone is going to try this when there’s a constant stream of traffic coming the other way, and I’ve got nowhere to go! :frowning: Even if I tap him at 4mph, there’s gonna be hell to pay, as no doubt all these never-worked-in-their-lives fools have nonetheless got degrees in law! :imp:

When we were kids, we used to be ushered into the inside of the pavement by our elder generation.
I rarely see that nowdays - kids always seem to be on the outside, just waiting to trip over into the gutter! :open_mouth:
Anyone filming my legs must think I’m doing Tai Chi with the way my right leg is always raised over the damned brake all the time! :imp:
