I do it because I didn’t listen at school.
I also use that excuse for being thick!
But for me it’s that the job ends the second i lock and walk away from the truck. I worked in IT for one of the biggest companies, and got fed up with feeling that I could always be working, as a computer was always at hand. So I love the fact that work only starts again when i rock up to say hello to my truck again!
Plus the job is easy and relatively low stress compared to dealing with blank looking company men managers who don’t have a clue how to do, or what is involved in your job. This results in a rather repetitive justification request for adequate time to actually do your job, so I found that driving a HGV, was a better option than splitting someones head in half with a computer keyboard!
Only now you have to deal with those blank faced company mongs driving their flash Audi’s and BMW’s…

True, but it’s a lot simpler explaining to said ■■■■, the basic concept of why something didn’t happen. Rather than talking technical computer issues and technicalities, that they don’t have a Scooby doo about. That was the crap for me mate, as management tried to size work without the technical knowledge of how to do it. At least the mongs now can under the concept of heavy traffic, or delayed at previous drop because of X,Y or Z!
And if they don’t, I feel no guilt or responsibility!

You also get to enjoy the faces of the mugs in Audi’s and mercs as they realise you really don’t care how expensive their car was or how much they feel intitled to use all the road, you are going to take that gap and their car will come off worce if they feel the need the challenge your 18t plus lump to a showdown. And then you thank them for screeching to a holt behind that parked car like a good little fragile overpriced piece of soon to be scrap

Sadistic and amusing mate!
But there is a hint of Trucker Jay in that! LOL - And I resisted, or rather acted responsibly to an audi that did a dumb over take and cut in before the bollards, than trucker Jay showed in his van incident!
As I hit the brakes when i saw that a nutter was overtaking me with nowhere to go but cut me up, as it’s the sensible thing to do. But at the same time I did feel that I missed out on justifiably pushing a bellend sideways along the road?
Not that i would ever do that, it just amazes me what some motorists do, and the risks they take!
Trucker Jay?
Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather not be in an accident. But it still amuses me to see their faces when I use all the road to reverse into a tight delivery spot or make it clear that I’m not going to risk hitting things on my nearside just to make room for them.
I think it’s this sorta thing that made my dad start to call me trog when I was younger. And like a true trog I embraced the name
My favourite is when I straddle a lane for, lets say, a left turn at lights. And as I start the turn, some knob decides to come up the inside of my trailer.
Never enjoyed geometry at school, but it is truly fascinating nowadays.

Hi all,As above why did you decide to become a Truck driver?..
People. They do my head in. Left home for the Army at nearly 16. Re-joined society 25yrs later. No time for two-faced, self-centred, jack ■■■■■ so to avoid the general public it was either gas mini-bulker driver around countrybumpkinland…or astronaut. Failed the NASA assessment.
Worst part of the job is being dragged down the pub the night before a day off.

I agree with you there mate. My job before trucking my boss supervisors and colleges did my head in. Made the job unbearable.
