MAN = Maschinenfabrik Augsburg- Nürnberg (Machine Works of Augsburg and Nürnberg)

There you go, this takes it even further back, from Sanders in Augsburg to today.

In 1898, the companies Maschinenbau-AG Nürnberg (founded 1841) and Maschinenfabrik Augsburg AG (founded 1840) merged to form Vereinigte Maschinenfabrik Augsburg und Maschinenbaugesellschaft Nürnberg A.G., Augsburg (“United Machine Works Augsburg and Nuremberg Ltd.”). In 1908, the company was renamed Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nürnberg AG, or in short, M·A·N.

That must be early German Unification or Simplification :stuck_out_tongue:

Nothing as simple as FORD though

I had one in 1992 whilst working in germany hauling steel for for thyssen edel sthal duisburg . the 19.462 was a 18l v10 producing 460 bhp @2000 rpm ,huge torque from that motor plus boosting turbo pressure was a doddle .
For its time it was a proper fire breathing animal. Nothing would touch it on the hills .

I drive a BMW.

Not sure what it stands for, some say it’s:

and others say it’s:

Both sound about right.

I think someone already posted the 1 for Renault?

m.a.n
produced the greatest euro truck of all time the 19.462 18 litre v 10. fantastic machine, with possibly the exception of 141 v8 scania,[when they knew how to build trucks].

Although the original Roadhaus was and still is one the best around…

What a fantastic motor they were & as written previously, the ‘Roadhaus’ cab was one of the best, if not THE best of it’s era & I don’t think the V10 was ever available in RHD form?? Certainly not in the early ones. (pre F2000)
