Nope…but I don’t want to be one of those drivers who has to do the whole CPC in one go in a couple of years for the price of remortgaging a house, so I done my first module last year.

if Sainsbury’s won’t employ me directly then there’s no point in me staying in Haulage…

What’s so special about driving for Sainsbury’s ?

Basic salary of 36k pa for a 48 hour week is whats so special about them…I can’t find another haulier that pays like that unless I’m prepared to drive hours for it, which I’m not. With Sainsbury’s the work is easy, relatively clean and I’m home every night.

is that what they get,36k for 48 hrs,zb hell, why cant they build one near me :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

No point in wanting a Sainsbury’s depot being built near you…like all supermarkets now they subcontract the transport out…the Basingstoke depot is only one of a handful of Sainsbury’s depots that are still Sainsbury’s in house transport…my mum keeps on saying I should try for the new CO-OP at Andover but I can’t find anything about wages etc.

Better than average but nothing outstanding when you consider you’ll be working 4 weekends in a row.

Depends what you consider ‘working 4 weekends in a row’…I currently work every Sunday so therefore I have Saturdays off to go flying…but its all swings and roundabouts, sometimes you work weekends, sometimes you don’t. I still want that job!

is that right 14.42 p.h :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: ,nigh on double what i get :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Yep…but that rate of pay has been the same for many years now. But consider that on some of the bank holidays around crimbo time they’re on triple pay…about £43 and hour ish.

I should imagine this gravy train will be heading for a siding, sooner or later, + the site is pretty 1960s, and not built for 21st century… :unamused:

There are Tesco drivers @ Hinkley on £45k+, they are on the old contracts, sooner or later they will go, either with a big pay off, or, invited to re-apply for their own jobs, with a higher bar to jump… :open_mouth:

Just an observation…

You say about the depot being old and not fit the 21st century…Basingstoke are competing to take work off of other depots…although its old, its layout means that its only crimbo time that presents a problem, in which case Sainsury’s owns leasing rights to another depot about 5 minutes away, so Basingstoke will be open for many years to come I think. But some of the Basingstoke drivers have been scared about Sainsbury’s moving over to a private contractor, I think they tried to several years ago but it fell through…but as long as I get a job on 36 and it stays the same for 4 years, then that’s all I need!

Yep…its a good wage but just like swings and roundabouts, it’s a very easy job…so easy, that its very boring!! And that answers another thread on here…some people are only in this job for the money. I only got my HGV licence to drive for Sainsbury’s so I could save up to become an airline pilot, and if I can’t get a job with Sainsbury’s and there aren’t other companies near Basingstoke that can match that wage, then I’ll be moving on ASAP.

If baisingstokes anything like east kilbride youv got no chance of a job as ther putting warehouse boys throu there HGV & have been for a while now. Even thou they have a ■■■■■■■■ (work nowhere else) maybe 50ish agencys guys who woud love a job there, even thou they get 100s of job apps every month, Just no chance. East kilbrides run by DHL but pays same rates as already posted & is definetly best place to work. They havnt recruited here in over 4 years. Lucky warehouse boys.

Well the strange thing is when I eventually become an airline pilot, I will sign up to an agency so I can do the odd day driving here and there…I do like driving, but I love flying.

It must be a “pilot” thing, but, I work with a couple of commercial pilots, who drive on their “rest” days, really nice level headed blokes, just what you want in the sky above I suppose
