What legislation next then?

ROG:
Total solution = get out of the EU and make some realistic UK domestic regs

It is about time something positive is done to improve productivity, and not strangle it.
Hours rules really need to be sorted, 1 being the 90 hr rule and not being able to drive after having a full weekend rest, how does that restiction compramise road safety??.

Have I got it wrong or are you seriously suggesting that we should be allowed to work even MORE hours, and/or less rest, is a 13/15 hour day not enough for you :open_mouth: if a wage, or for that matter employer profitability for these max hours is not enough, then the job is even more crap than I thought. Not entirely sure what you mean about the 90 hr max, it surely enhances safety by relief of potential driver fatigue rather than compromise it, and the restriction as you put it, is there to stop unscrupulous employers insisting a driver works ridiculously long hours, and to prevent some drivers who would be willing and stupid enough to work 24hrs, from killing themselves and more importantly other people.

I am not suggesting we do more hours, I am not doing any more hours than I was doing 20 years ago, but certainly not doing any were near the mileage what could be covered back then!
Less mileage = less productivity = less profit = less wages!
It ain’t rocket science.
Hours rules are ok as far as daily driving goes, but 90 hrs in a 2 week period, is rediculous.

Ahhh theres the answer to the original question… a new two tier tax system. See the thread posted today

hitch:
the 45 and 90 hour rule are maximums
not a target that has to be met

That’s the sort of B/S statement a member of the enforcement agencies would come out with.
Of course they are targets, if your not aiming for those targets, your not playing the game.
A 14hr 59min spread and 9hr 59min drive in a shift = winner.
Go over, and your a loser!!

if someone with common sense was to rewrite the next EU legislation, then this is what they would do. (but they don’t employ people with common sense).
maximum driving time without a break 4.5 hours. then 1 hour break, or 3 hours driving and 30 minutes break.
no maximum driving time per day/week/fortnight,
maximum duty time 14 hours.
10 hours rest.
36 hours rest per week. or 24 hours in week 1, and 48 in week 2.

It seems ■■■■■■■ ridiculous you can do a 15hour day with 10hours driving and only take 9hours rest. I should think theres alot of drivers who tip on break because there up on their time and the next timed delievery is 30mins down the road but wouldnt make it because they have to take a break now instead of getting both drops done then parking up afterwards.

Its strange that VOSA a Gov’t Agency yet gets no funding from the Gov’t. Their very existence is wholly dependent on fines accrued from the Hauliers and drivers etc. So that in itself tells its own story. To keep their jobs like old bill they guys will be on targets. So VOSA will get tougher and the fines will multiply.

Its called progress

Madness isnt it.

we now need a certificate for most things.
a health and safety card to enter a building site.
another card to enter a quarry.
hiab certificate,
we’ll need a tipper ticket next, then tautliner/flatbed/lowloader/tanker ticket.
then a palletised ticket, fresh meat/frozen meat/frozen veg ticket.
a motorway certificate.
ferry boarding and disembarcation certificate. “sorry you can’t get off, you’ve only done part one”

How to wear a hard hat course, the correct method of application and colour choice, then a ratchet strap course to follow.
