Here’s my view as someone whose still wet behind the ears but has couple of years under his belt. I haven’t done boxes myself as I believe it would bore me.
This job comes with many pitfalls such as long hours and poor pay(not always), rude staff at RDCS and the like and the thank it’s mainly a thankless job.
I knew I wanted to this job when I was your age and finally got to do it at 23, I find it quite fulfilling and challenging. Tramping suits me well, but others can’t take to it. When you first pass your test you will have more rejections than the smelly kid trying to get a date for prom. But if you continue to put yourself out there and keep your determination you will find some thing and you will have to do the jobs no one else wants to for a while but every day is a school day and you will work your way up to bigger and better things.
I get why a lot of guys are saying that you should find a different path but at the end of the day if you want to try it all you’ll lose is a few grand and bit of time but you really don’t know until you try it.
Good luck

Lets say I start at 6am.Rise at 5am. Quick wash, brush teeth, get dressed, brew in a travel flask and in the car for 5.20am. Arrive at work at 5.45am. Park up, collect paperwork from in the office and climb in the wagon at 6am. Put card in, do manual entries, check fluid levels and get under whichever trailer, then full walk round check for about 5-10 mins, quick brew from the machine, chin wag with any mates I bump into and leave the yard at about 6.30am.
Do duties.
Arrive back in yard, drop trailer, park up unit, eject card, quickly drop keys & paperwork in the office and make a swift dart for the car before anyone has chance to clock i’m leaving (thus to avoid getting any ‘just nips’). I know my start time for the next day because I asked on the phone on the drive back.
i would like a job like that, container work , 1am start some times

There’s only one 1o’clock in my day, same with 2, 3, and 4 come to think of it.
Assuming you aint a night man, if you’re a tramper, or even a day man, that sounds more like a ■■■■ endurance test than a job mate.

I did 1am starts at DHL Tradeteam and it’s crap. Going to bed at 5/6pm and coming home at 1pm is pointless in life. I manged a few weeks until something better came along.
Im in a similar position to what you will/might be. Im 19 going on 20. Grew up going out in the truck with my dad but it was never really something that I seen myself doing. I was in college doing an engineering course and decided to go sit my hgv rather than continue the following year as my heart wasn’t in it and I would no doubt fall behind come uni etc due to my lack of interest. Anyway, I decided to go down the agency route to start as it would be more flexible and I could do it for a few months to see if it was for me, by then I’d made my money back on the tests! Only thing is that with agency you basically get thrown the keys and given a run sheet, you need to learn quickly. As most of the guys are saying its a big sacrifice at this age. Defo miss all the good nights out n that with your pals. Basically what ‘Chunkzilla’ said about doing the ■■■■ jobs that noone else wants helps to get you in the door. I had to start doing 7.5t multidrop (20+ drops a day) but once they see that you can get about without breaking anything and get the job done you’ll eventually get onto the artics like I am. I would make sure its 100% what u want to do before jumping in to it though. Ive had to move to Bedford from Glasgow in order to get good work and its paying off - for now. Aim is to save up and hopefully try to get my own truck on in a few years - pro of being young - less bills to pay out = easier to save up. Hope this helps. And i’d read the newbie sections on this, they help alot with the small stuff that you dont get shown on your test
