I hope everyone can manage to reach 2012 too, although after spending the last 7 days in Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay I am not sure my old bones will stand much more.
I did manage to fall down the steps at the Bay Hotel and that was after one pint, but the snow was deep so I suppose I have a slight excuse. Didn’t stop me receiving a huge bruise over my replacement hip though.
We haven’t celebrated Christmas this year as I had to take my wife into hospital on Christmas Day.
She has pneumonia and is in isolation because she’s suspected as having swine flu too. She’s had three units of blood to remedy a very low blood count and is on anticoagulant injections in the stomach as well as IV-fed antibiotics, a nubuliser and tablets.
We found out today that the swine flu results have come back negative, only to find that she’s now got oral thrush - caused by the antibiotics. She’s now having more medication to combat that too.
I’ve had my 11-year old daughter camped-out at her nan’s and my 15-year old son here with me. If one more person asks me if I’ve had a good Christmas, they’ll be getting a proper punch up the trumpet.
My hopes & wishes are to get Our Maud out of hospital in one piece and to get some bloody peace from her mother…

Hi Marky,
My sympathy to your wife and the rest of you.I had pneumonia about a month ago,had 15 days in hospital with it,same treatment as your wife, except having blood, had the rest, jabs in the stomach, nebuliser and antibiotics IV-fed and the rest, its pretty rough.I hope she soon makes a full recovery.
Cheers Dave.
Dave, the in laws have just got back from the hospital and the latest news is that she’s coming home Tues/Wed next week. The IVs are gone, the bloods are coming back as good and the only ( ) things to sort out now apart from building up her strength again is the oral thrush (treatment started today).
A long period of rest should follow, after than another chest x-ray. Hopefully all should be well by then.
I said to my sister a few minutes ago that I don’t think I’ll ever celebrate Christmas properly again after this. There is no level of hype that could possibly get me excited about this time of year after this.
Happy New Year everyone. May it be a peaceful and prosperous time for everyone in 2011.

Good news Marky. I have to go for chest xray on the 9th of Jan,followed by a couple more appointments, but feeling pretty good now.As you say it puts a big dampener on things.I couldn’t buy my other half a proper present for xmas because I wasn’t able to go out, never mind will buy her something in the next month.
Enjoy your drink.
Cheers Dave.
My thoughts are with you, sometimes the hype is insignificant, I lost my sister a couple of days before xmas and start the first week of 2011 with a funeral , you can only hope better times come round again.
All the best to you for 2011.

Marky, a very generous comment given your personal situation.
I truly hope your good lady makes a full & speedy recovery, things like this make us all look at our own circumstances and realise that we really do have it good.
The very best of luck bud.
Ross.
PS, (on a personal note) I hope the old F16 I’ve bought makes it home from Germany later this week, I’m flying out there on Tuesday morning to drive it home.

Marky I know what you are going through, I had Linda in Blackpool Victoria hospital for nearly 5 months in 2010. I hope all goes well for you and 2011 turns into a great year for you.

I hope she sounds as sweet as this one did, taken in McAlpine’s yard when we were building 42" gas pipeline Mawdesley to Warrington around 2000
The yard was at Atherton at Gadbury Fold where the Atherleigh way started, with my office doors and window open I could hear her coming down the road
she sounded as sweet as a nut. Ex W.R Chapman of Kings Lynn

I sincerely hope that by this time next year all the regulars on the site will still be here, can’t say hail and hearty because most of us do have various levels of ill-health,however,I still hope the “head count” will be the same(Somebody lift “H” up at the back—oh no he’s not been at the single malt again!!)And there’s more,I wish that more contributors join the site as I would like to think there is still a vast resevoir of "un-tapped gems and nuggets of both interesting anocdotes as well as the usual load of old ■■■■■■■■ that generates healthy banter throughout the year!!! Whoever said that a Guy big J was an un-interesting motor!!! All the best to everyone on the thread for a great 2011! Cheers Dennis.
