West Midlands police truck

This will be no different than the current VOSA fiasco. VOSA have nothing to do with safety, simply meeting targets to justify their jobs. As this is a new initiative Police will be keen to release over hyped nonsense to the press, exactly like VOSA currently do. VOSA are now issuing fines for the most petty of offences and these idiots will be the same.

The problem is most of the offences rely on what the Police deem to be careless driving, which pretty much covers everything. Anyone who drives 9/10 hour days and says they NEVER look at the radio, change station, insert a cd, eat or drink is an absolute liar. They are all perfectly safe in certain circumstances but all technically illegal at any time. It won’t be long before a driver is prosecuted for lifting one arse cheek to ■■■■. How many times does the average male grab his nuts whilst driving to ‘re-arrange’. An essential part of driving but still illegal.

The jobs completely ■■■■’ed now, I’m glad I only have a couple of years driving before I quit.

Has any LGV driver been done for doing something in the cab SAFELY at an appropriate safe time ?

Hardly a cost effective way of monitoring the motorways is it ?

Or should that be hardly a cost effective way of targeting truckers :unamused:

PC Angus Nairn and his colleagues appear to have court a driver probably changing a CD whilst driving, this is in a two week campaign that has cost the taxpayer no small amount of money.

Presumably we can expect to see the taxpayer paying hundreds of thousands of pounds per year in the not too distant future for several of these motors to be permanently on the motorways.

Will they also be filming and prosecuting all the cars that they observe driving unsafely?

Or are they going to ignore offences by them?

I think that’s an unanswerable question. It’s just too much of a question of opinion.

Take drinking while driving.

If an enforcement officer (of any shade) saw me drinking my coffee, from a proper cup/mug (not the cardboard/paper/plastic things) as I was driving along, there would be little question of his ability to report me and secure a conviction.

It could possibly be argued (obviously I would be biased) that there is little wrong “in principle” with drinking my coffee - with particular caveats regarding my attention, and where and to what that attention is focused by what percentage.

What particularly annoys me is the fact we can be prosecuted for the “what if” portion. “What if some other buffoon (other than me) causes yet someone else to alter their course or speed to such extent that causes a collision” The simple fact that I happen to have my finger up my nose to the third knuckle digging for boogers is enough for some PMT suffering smart-arse to say “Ah well, it’s your fault because I’m saying (wild stab in the dark guessing) that you weren’t in full control of your vehicle”

Or worse still, and more to the point . . . . “What if . . . . . . . blahblahblah happened ? Therefore you’re nicked. Sign here”

I could get knocked down by a bus. If I’m stupid enough to step out in front of a bus, then I probably deserve to have the natural selection process of Darwin lead to me being squished :unamused:

I doubt they would ignore any offence they happen to see, but will they be actively looking at cars or concentration their attention to trucks ?

is that a new scania r series ?

There has been many reported incidents of drivers being prosecuted for eating whilst parked in a traffic jam or lights with the handbrake on. Clearly nothing to do with safety, just the coppers never got laid the previous night. They will definately be target driven, no two ways about it.

even more reason now to hide behind my frilly curtains :grimacing:

So the police is wasting our taxes for personal plates?

time for mirror tint on the windows, me thinks!!!

So, a police car doing 70Mph in the third lane of a motorway moves into the second lane, keeps up the speed, then gets overtaken by a LWB sprinter van towing a trailer

how many offences are listed there?

would the police stop the afore mentioned van and “have a word”?

NO

they just watched him as he went past :unamused:

and on another note, just after the police in the south of the country had prosectued a motorist for eating a bar of chocolate, i witnessed a police car being driven in Leicestershire, there were 2 police officers in the car at the time, the driver was eating an apple

seems to me to be a case of 1 law for 1 blah blah blah!!!

no wonder people have very little respect for the law these days :unamused:

So where do they get the operators license for that if its only for 2 weeks ? I hope they get cut up by cars a lot and start filming them. My truck does 94kmh so if I see a Scania unit gaining on me without a trailers then I will drive with 2 hands on the wheel, both at 10 to 2 just incase !

Here are some more pics of the ‘spy’ truck:
roadtransport.com/blogs/road … les-1.html

would have more respect if they parked up in a lay-by and sat up all nite waiting on curtain slashers and deisel tea leafs than driving around spying like something from the gestapo, next thing pc shiny buttons will be volunteering for this gig, sounds right up his street, tools the lot of them

Is being spotted eating/drinking a fixed penalty? or just if they class it as being dnagerous?

philmots:

WITHOUT DUE CARE & ATTENTION is the common charge and it can be brought if the driver is doing ANYTHING that detracts from having proper control over the vehicle.

WDC&T can be used in the case of using a mobile phone but most forces opt for the easier fixed penalty.

A dangerous driving charge will usually be brought if what the driver is doing goes beyond DWDC&T
In a moving vehicle, making love to a partner with the partner on top of you in the driving seat might be a good case for that :unamused: :open_mouth:

This is a complete utter waste of money but hey who are we to say that. There is no way in 1 day they can recover the officers involved wage’s diesel costs, wear and tear of tyres etc Most fines are £30 for drinking at the wheel etc Well i saw one at j44 m6 pulled a truck over there is rumored to be 4 trucks unmarked and working with hauliers up and down the m6 top to bottom all 400 odd miles.
