Hi Andrew, got myself off work at the moment with a broken wrist so i know wher youre coming from seems the only money in this job is being self employed relief driver but at least the truck is out earning and the customers hav
nt looked elsewhere for haulage but profit out of the window for the next few weeks, sorry for going on but lve followed this thread from the start and there really is some great stuff, just wish someone would dig up some pictures of Bengry
s motors that ran out of Leinthall quarry 60s + 70`s that would bring back some very happy memories, anyway well done Dave brilliant thread, cheers

One of Countrywide’s seen on the A4111,on the top of Bollingham near Kington, this one was nearly past before we got the pic.HI, nice to see the bullnose, always was a impressive looking wagon, and whilst im not a fan of lorries being bedecked with pictures and spotlights, and I would far prefer to see lorries in the traditional livery, you have to give Charlie Fisher (our transport manager) his due, he does run an impressive fleet, and is a true lorry man at hart, gets a lot of work out of his drivers, but he not only gives the drivers good kit, but also pays a tidy wage, which is getting rarer these days, with some drivers willing to drive a top spec truck at bottom rate wages. I can understand that by giving the drivers custom spec wagons Charlie Fisher does instill a pride in working for the company, the many awards won at different truck shows proves this point, although I think some are a little overdone, prehaps I might just be getting a miserable old git !!
regards Andrew.
Hi Andrew,
There’s your chance mate,Charlie Fisher has got an advert in the back of this weeks Commercial Moter seeking owner drivers for bulk tipper work, you could team up with Martyn and fire up and down the highways of the UK and make a fortune.
But as we all know the reality is much different to that.
Cheers Dave.
One of Kens Tipper Hire’s new Renault artics, seen at Dunfield near Kington.
Saw this one on the A4111 near Eardisley Herefordshire.
hiya,
Dave like the Scania bullnosed job could have driven one of them, a lot easier than the old long nosed Scammell’s i used to punch about, bet you know my only criticism, dump that silly cowcatcher and rooflights in the nearest skip and put an extra half ton on it’s back it spoils the look of an otherwise very nice motor, now i’ve got to find the guy who’s just lobbed a half brick through my parlour window, but on a serious note gaffers must have money to burn if they can afford to adorn motors with all that unsightly rubbish, wagons are for working not showing, i’m going back to bed now and try and get out of the right side.
thanks harry long retired.
Hi Harry,
The countrywide drivers all seem to go in for a lot of lights and extras on their moters,if you notice, they also have murals on them as well. One of their other units has a mural of the two Ronnies on it,must cost a bomb.Have got a couple of spotlights on my vans, but not as many as a lot of the lorries. The bullnosed wagons are ok for main road work, wouldn’t be much good getting to some of the farms in Mid Wales.
Cheers Dave.
Here’s one for you Harry,no bling on it,just a plain moter with the name on it,and it’s from up your way.Seen on the A44 again, near Kington.
hiya,
Now that looks better, just one thing should be an F88 with heavy haulage capability, that would suit me fine nice low loader set-up behind would shift a few old mainliners with one of them, but would need some sugar in my tea to be able to pull them up onto the trailer with the "Turfer’s"or a powerful second man, NORMAN.
thanks harry long retired.
Will this one suit you better Harry, did put it on a couple of weeks ago.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Spot on that one Dave, i’ll fax him my reference’s, can’t spell CV, but i won’t hold my breath and don’t think i’ll even bother re-applying for my HGV licence, it’s a funny thing but that motor set-up with that sort of load will only be able to carry about 25 tons it not being one lump, once went to Whitehaven with a special trailer carrying general cargo got pulled with the ministry, told them i was going for an abnormal indivisable load, “my firm confirmed it” sat there for the rest of the week until they could find me a suitable load back, a crane jib 65 foot long, bet they would’nt swallow it these days, they had to send a second man on the train to make the job “legal”.
thanks harry long retired

Hi Harry, had to laugh, one day the usual driver of this outfit came into the Presteigne depot driving a very tidy, and uncustomised FM 12 Globetrotter, when I asked him where his usual motor was he explained that he had been demoated drom the bullnose onto the Volvo,he seemed slightly surprised when I told him that it wasnt demoation but infact premoation, I knew which lorry I would prefer to drive on bulk, and it wasnt the bullnose.Mind you with a low loader behind rather than a bulker then it would be the other way round, although it would look a lot better without all the bulls…t.
regards Andrew.
