Oppersite is there a car park with a builders merchant in one corner, I used to go one nr there it was not far from the lights where you turn right on that little inner bypass thing, I remember a very good chippy was there. What a pig of a place to get in and out of that car park with a 45 ft trailer.

Hi John,
The chip oil,by the lights a the bottom of Bargates is still going,its called Dimarco’s. I think its still run by the same family,as far as I know. Most of these little market towns around this area,are hard for delivery drivers,narrow streets,built for the horse and cart,not lorrries.

I don’t suppose you know the driver of this Scania ?, there was a Huffer drove for Swains doing Italy back in the early eighties,and also one who drank in The Crown at Clunton many years ago.
Also is Woodcemere still on Shobdon airfield ran timber in there for years ?

I’m afraid I don’t know any of Pugh’s drivers,could well be the same bloke,or a relation.
Woodcemere became Torvale,then finished. The whole site and more is occupied by Kingspan,the big insulation board firm now,its a very big operation compared to what was there before. Tonyb who is on here,works there as a shunter,he can tell you much more than I can.

The Huffer driving the scania is neither the two that you mentioned.
The one on swains is surley retired now,
There are a couple o families of huffers in clunton,so i’m sure they’ll still be in the same pub.It hasn’t changed alot.
