Hiya,
It’s nice to see Graham’s postings, always welcome, and heavy haulage at it’s best,
with the gear for the job and not a job that you can just stick anyone on a great
deal of experience needed for that type of work only achievable by being hands
on and many many hours of doing and working with the more experienced lads.
just thinking what’s become of another of our heavy haulage chums namely our
“Dessert Driver” it’s ages since we’ve heard from him, unless I’ve missed his posts.
thanks harry, long retired.I do see Keith on the forum Harry, he must be taking a look. I think that last time he posted, he said that he is on the spanners more than behind the wheel these days.
Cheers Dave.Hi Boys
Don’t worry boys, I’m watching you![]()

I don’t get much time now a days as Dave said I’m mostly on the spanners with the odd driving when our drivers are off plus I have been studying to get engineering degree which takes up a lot of time.
Grapham I like those photos how is the not so new truck going, have you had any problems? And tell us about the auto gearbox is it any good on our job. Like you i’m old school and like the stick change but I suppose there will come a time when we change our Scani that we will have to go auto buggery.![]()

Hi pete - that’s taken at the former SHACS mill in ross on wye - shacs being the abbreviation for south herfordshire agricultural co-operative society. The mill had a double entrance on two separate streets namely nursery road, and brookend street, where the pic was taken. it has a small office to the left, and the main mill building to the right. SHACS also had a retail shop on the Gloucester Road selling animal feeds / seeds and the like. They had their main office and a warehouse off Station Street, selling larger agricultural supplies and some machinery, all long gone now, as the warehose/ offices have become a sainsburys supermarket, the mill was demolished and now stands retirement flats. The yard in the photo still remains tho, with the office a private house, and the mill bit was an antiques centre, soon to become a new restaurant.
As for the vehicles, other than that one, I remember a few Bedford flat beds doing the round on farm deliveries all in the orange colour - SHACS at ross closing in the early eighties
Cheers
Adie
