Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Dave the Renegade:

A lot of drivers from the Kington area drove for this firm in the 1970’s, including Jim Jenkins Dad.

Yes Keith, all sorts of wagons were parked on the square above Passey Nott’s warehouses. Others were parked in various places in the area. Passey Nott had 12 lorries at Kington. My Dad drove for them for over 40 years. J & P Turner had a dozen at Arrow Mills. A lot of lorries around Kington in those days.
Cheers Dave.

The operators licence and operating centres put paid to drivers keeping the lorries close to home Geraint. We would have a field day with the camera if they parked like that these days.
Cheers Dave.

From what I recall, Hughes was bought out by British Vita (VitaFoam) some time in the mid 1970s. Also, I think Owens came about following the liquidation of Morfa Transport - although I may be wrong on this.

Sounds about the right time-scale Andrew, they weren’t around for long.
Cheers Dave.
