A load of churns was a bit tight for space & weight on the Morris, Dave. The Bedford was better but it was a bit slow.
I used to go in early, do a load of third-of-a-pint bottles around the city schools, then collect churns from the Dilwyn area, then out again with a full load of bottles to the branch in Worcester.
You were doing a fair old mileage in those days for petrol engined lorries. I can remember the O type Bedfords Passey Nott and J & P Turner at Kington had several of them. Also Kem Transport from Marlbrook used to do the milk churn collections for Cadbury’s, from the farms with them.
Cheers Dave.
During and just after the war, the “Old Firm” in Newent used to do the milk from our area to Cadbury’s at Frampton where it was made into Raw Chocolate Crumb before being sent to Bournville. There would be huge blocks of the stuff which had dripped from the plant and set solid in the collecting trays. If the chap on the gate had bothered, he could have found a block of it underneath the passenger seat. Lovely grub, tasted like Cadbury’s Milk Choc, only richer.
When other goods became more profitable, R.T.Challoner took over the churn collections and about twenty years later they merged with two other Cadbury hauliers and became Kem Transport with a school mate and former colleague of mine being instated as manager.
My old chap used to tell me of three of the firm’s lorries leaving Frampton withy empty churns and racing up the three-lane section of the A38 three abreast! Not so many vehicles about in those days!

A couple from Roy Morgan who drove this one for Kem Transport, and after that was a manager at Cadburys at Marlbrook.
I bet that was a handful when the liquid slopped changing down going over Dinmore Hill!

He was probably hauling the stuff from Marlbrook to other places along the A417.

Cheers Dave.

morning dave,
i must say that considering the work and places those log trucks have to go to they are a credit to their owners,

Quite agree Graham. Most of the timber hauliers keep their wagons tidy and run top of the range vehicles.
Cheers Dave.

Hello dave,
We were thinking about a 730 last time around but owing to the opticruise we decided against it,Since the 620 is not available now watch this space as we have one 8 legger with it and it is very driver friendly, see what comes next.
Graham.
I remember you telling me that when your current motor was on order. Looks the part, but I would think that cab would be a bit big going into the woods.
Cheers Dave.
