Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Their car showroom and workshop was in Blackfriar Street at the back of the old cattle market in Hereford Casey. I bought a new Vauxhall Cavalier 2 litre mk3 off them in 1989.
Cheers Dave.

Oh yes- toward the Widemarsh St end of Blackfriars St.
I called in one day with my Viva HB with a mixture problem. Chap looked at it straight away, diagnosed the problem and sent me on my way with the parts needed to fix it. No charge. You’d be hard pressed to find service like that nowadays.

The Vauxhall dealership in Hereford is on Centurion Way,which is across the top of Wiggins going towards the skew railway bridge. I don’t think you would get that type of service up there. Several of the big car dealerships are up there.
Cheers Dave.

Another from Andrew Deakin’s collection.

Another one from Andrew Deakin. Dalgetty had a mill at Knighton 7 miles from here.

Evening all, how are you Dave?

Vincent Greenhouse, Bedford in Hereford, Shrewsbury, and when they took over the bust Wolverhampton Motor Services, in Wolverhampton. That was to become Leyland in 1988, and then Leyland DAF. In Whitchurch they had AEC, right on the A41 roundabout. Supplied all the Morgan Edwards, (Spar), Marshall 6 wheelers in Shrewsbury.

Vauxhall, they had Shrewsbury, Lyde, Stoke on Trent , Hereford, and Telford.

In the 70s/80s, Patrick Greenhouse was the Group Chairman, delightful man, used to fly a Boulton and Paul Defiant during WW11. Shot down twice, (a fate not unkown to Defiant pilots)! A real gentleman. On his passing away the Group was acquired by the Chairman, Dudley Murfin, Finance Director Andy Hazlewood, and the Shrewsbury MD Keith Sayfritz, (big Shrewsbury Town enthusiast…did he not acquire the club)?.

Then the lot was sold on again…Wolverhampton is still trading as DAF. They had a rally useful lad at Hereford…cannot remember his name, Andy…? Had a few deals with him over the years, think that he, or his son have an ex Bulmers KM Bedford.

Amazing how the little grey cells keep on working

Cheerio for now.

Andy Powell is his name John, still has the old Bulmers KM. I didn’t know many of the mechanics at Lyde, I did buy the one new car at Hereford off them, but bought several new Vauxhall’s off Ludlow Motors.
Cheers Dave.
