Hi KK,
Not familiar with Bibby’s motors.I know they took over Taylors of Martley and the Kingspan fleet are theirs.
Cheers Dave.

A Scania wagon & drag,seen on the A438 near Willersley,Herefordshire.

It does look like a Bibby’s truck and the trailer seems to be from Greif who were formerly known as Van Leer, an Ellesmere Port based metal drum (i.e barrel) making company.

As far as I know without looking it up Harry 44 ton gross. Not sure what the payload would be,but it has the advantages of using it without the drag as you would know better than any of us.Possibly with only five axles on that combination the gross would be 40 ton.
Cheers Dave.

As I said to KK Cavlad.I don’t know much about Bibby Distribution except that they are one of the big players in the haulage/logistics scene.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Dave when I started wag and drag driving in 1957 I think (but not sure) you could put 14 tons on the 8 wheeler and 6 tons on the trailer but what the gross would be I’m not sure but at a guess about 28 tons this was adhered to when on for the BRS but when on for the privateer’s although you would have to struggle to get more than 6 tons on the little 4 wheel trailers I know I’ve had over 20 tons on the legger on many an occasion, hence the need for the knotted rope in the early days when the trailer boy was needed to help you stop the things, “wake up you lazy little git” I was known to shout across the shed, I did mellow a bit when they put the trailer braking under my left foot. Would love to know when and by how much the weights for different types of vehicles have changed over the years .
thanks harry long retired

The gross weights have gone up along with the power and the braking systems Harry. But at 28 tons gross your motor had a good payload. The wag and drag at 44 ton would carry about 28/9 ton depending on the type of bodies etc.
Cheers Dave.
