Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

I’m sorry to see that Atki there - it’s a rare 6x2 motor, possibly a Leader but maybe an earlier Rear Steer. I think it was new to Midland Storage at West Hallam, and I first saw it parked up in a yard in (I think) Lydrook whilst on holiday around 1993. I was offered it at £850 with the crane, or £750 without.

At that time, I’d just bought my own Rear Steer and I already had the Viewline, plus I was looking after Bowker’s Mk.1 and Thornycroft so I had my hands full.

Anyway, it turned up at Kev Dennis’ first sale in 1997, and I hoped it had gone to someone who was going to do something with it. It needed a lot of work then, and that was 14 years ago, so it can’t be too pretty now.

The rear view was in Lydbrook, and the front one in Wainfleet, whilst the old photo is of sister vehicle JRA 977J

Hi 240,
Will try and get some better pics of it when we go back. Its good to have the history of these vehicles.
Cheers Dave.

Midland storage had a glut of Atki’s on J reg plates, a pal of mine had DRA34J that was on tankwork.
then somthing attracted them to F88’s. they had a fair fleet of AEC marshall 6 leggers at one time.
