Hi Dave. Dad always liked his scania 81 as well. He ran it with a tipping trailer at 32 tonnes. had it for 7 years then had a scania 111 but always preferred the 81.
Well Dave I’m planning to go to Gaydon on the Sunday with the Scania 81’s big brother [my 141]. No disrespect to Harry but I’ll never forget the years of good work I had with that 81 in the late 70’s.

Well Merfyn aand Rowly,it looks as if you have Harry outnumbered on the Scania 81,is it your 141 Rowly,if I see it I’ll look out for you as I’m hoping to go on the Sunday, will spot Merfyn,no problem,as we have met a few times at different shows.
Cheers Dave.
PS stupid question Rowly, you just stated it was yours, excuse the ignorance of not reading your post properly.

When I was on bulk a few years ago, Way’s were the same as the rest of us they were on general bulk, animal feeds, grain, waste paper, they did hell of a lot of coal to there area as backloads, I’m not sure but I think they had a coal retail business as well as haulage.

hiya,
The motor I drove was the 80 one of the very first and certainly never a 32 tonner, it was a good thing i was a handy lad with the spanners, i had three problems on the first trip the main feed from the lift pump to the pump burst, i repaired this with bits and bobs i bought from a nearby motorcycle shop, later an injector pipe leaked had to tighten this up plus all the retaining clips which had come loose, then to cap it all trying to pick a trailer in Dover a half shaft snapped, drove from Dover to Blackburn on the difflock oh yes it is possible, the fleet engineer thanked me for getting the heap back home the half shaft was found to be faulted (metal fatigue) this was a brand spanking new motor on it’s first trip, i did ask for my old Atki Borderer back after that one, but I didn’t get it so sought pastures new.
thanks harry long retired.
