Yet another Scania six wheeler livestock wagon, seen at Knighton market.

A trio of livestock motors, seen at Knighton market.

Another from Knighton market, these newer type of livestock containers must make these vehicles easier to wash.

On the subject of livestock wagons Dave; One morning last summer I followed a cattle wagon off the A34 at Pear Tree, heading for the A40 back to Ducklington. The traffic was busy but moving when a bit of stuff in a white BMW Z-summit soft top nipped in between me and cattle truck-at the same time as I should think all the sheep onboard decided to pee. Cue a panicked woman in business dress praying her roof would come up quick enough; It didn’t, and I made sure she couldn’t back up a bit :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

I can remember a similar " accident " happening one morning when I was driving a loaded cattle truck.
I was queuing on the roadway, waiting to enter Kendal Auction yard at about 8.30 , as schoolkids were on their way to school. Some of the brats were well-known for upsetting livestock by banning their fists on the alloy panels and shouting, so I always kept a watchful eye through the nearside mirror. That morning one lad decided to unfasten one of the lower vents, and put his head up to the 22" x4" opening to shout at the cattle inside. He did that O.K., BUT the sudden noise caused one of the cattle to " cough " with fright !!!
I witnessed one hell of an immediate colour transformation for that kid. Within 2 seconds he changed from a laughing White Boy to a shocked and spluttering illegal immigrant, with a now-matching colour school jacket !!!
His mates burst out laughing, but then decided to walk the remaining few hundred yards to school without him.
The kid ? ------ As I drove into the auction yard, he was sitting on the pavement, bawling his eyes out, and probably wondering just HOW he was going to explain to his teacher that he DID wash his face before he left home that morning.
All livestock can be unpredictable, but this bullock took quick revenge that morning.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.

I’m amazed there wasn’t a call to one of “Dodgy lawyers 4u” that crop up on tv when the chronically useless and unemployed are watching Jeremy Kyle

Another pair of Scania’s,seen at Knighton livestock market.

A few vehicles of all sorts, unloading sheep at Knighton market. If we had gone back in the afternoon,we would of seen the artics loading them.

Paul Griffiths owns this transit pickup, seeen in the colours of “THE OLD RADNOR TRADING Co Ltd” the original owners of the Gore and Dolyhir quarries, which they sold to Mann-Abell in the mid 60’s.

It looks like a 20t payload, Dave. That’s good for a volvo with a body that big. Is that an FMX (specific construction chassis) or standard FM?

The six wheelers are getting less this way Nathan, due to the lack of payload, but they will still need some to access some jobs, where the eights are too long.
Cheers Dave.
