40hrs at NMW is £15,000 a year. A petrol station in a MSA will have at least 2 staff so there’s at least an extra £45,000 in wages. Insurance may cost more for one not open 24hrs but it doesn’t cost that much more.

As stated above,I’m surprised any car driver would want or need to fill up at a MSA.
Many of them are probably using a fuel card like the truck drivers do. Of those who don’t many of them don’t drive lorries so aren’t on such a pathetic wage that an extra £4 or £5 on the fuel isn’t an issue and are happy to pay that to avoid the inconvenience of having to go off route to find a petrol station.

It’s about 20p a litre more at an MSA than at a supermarket so nearer £10 more. Many people, whether on a high or low wage are so short-sighted that they will happily throw £10 away, and won’t fill up cheaply at the beginning of a journey because “I’ve still got half a tank left”.

Mr Patel still has to pay NMW to his cousin and he can still cigarettes at the RRP, how many times have you been in a service place and seen the same member of staff serving Costa Coffee, Alice’s Pantry and The Cake Shop?
I cannot see a reasonable excuse why every item is double the price of a high street shop. WH Smith are another one, grab you by the ■■■■■■■■ and twist them.
