Not been in your job long? Most shovel drivers I’ve come across are able to judge a load by the number of buckets they load you with. Scary accurate some of them.

Shingle, just under 6t…Sharp sand 6.7ish Type 1 and ballast just over 7. ■■■■■■■■ about 5.5.
Sand weights can vary depending on how dry it is, and 1/4 ton of ballast is about 2 barrowfulls.
