god this is getting on my nerves :imp: yes u r only 1 wheel from disaster but hey thats the joy of driving. mallaig rd has been upgraded recently used 2 b mostly single track :frowning: its like this):dont cut corners.stick 2 nearside white line. dont cut corners.drive at a safe stopping speed at tight corners, narrow bits, rough bits.but most importantly, dont cut the (zb) corners. 2 many “drivers” come in 2 the highlands clip mirrors then blame the locals when they are hoggin centre line or cutting corners.scanny u need 2 listen 2 dingo and mcploppy.i’'ll put money on it that dingo has driven more miles in reverse on these roads than u will drive forward on them.this is not an attack but just the way i c it.oh bridge between tyndrum crianlarich is 16"dead.bridge on a82 loch lomond rd 14,6"

whether being overtaken or passing each other, i always watch the centre line as a guide to the position of each vehicle in relation to each other

I was trying to work out why you were having a problem on these roads… I read back over your replies and text … and found the line above !!!

THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM

You should be looking or have a feel for where your motor is in relation to the nearside !!!

I guarantee you still had a good 6 inches to use on the left if not a foot or more !!!

And you have the audacity to come on here and publicly slander another driver. !!!

Back in the days when drivers were drivers and not just steering wheel attendents we were taught to position the vehicle in relation to the nearside.

some may remember a job i did a couple of years ago driving a rigid for the co-op to mallaig and i seem to remember saying that i wouldnt fancy taking an artic up that road and it was the toughest job i had ever done from a driving perspective. in fact, roads like the A82 were exactly what i was dreading when i moved back to scotland.

costa del sol this is not!

this is not a beach so bournemouth is ruled out

when the scenery is vertical and dwarfs the truck, you know you are in the highlands

im almost in the clouds. what goes up must come down. where is that exhaust brake again?
moto eat your heart out. THIS is an overnight parking repellant. scotland outlawed clamping so we throw bits of the countryside at you if you dare to park up

and of course, to tempt you to have a wee dram, the place names are only properly pronounced when you are legless and cant talk properly

on a serious note, fergusons transport seem to have priority over everyone up here. i nearly went off the road a few times avoiding mirror contact. there are a few bends where 2 trucks cant pass each other as you need to cross the solid white lines. most are switched on and one will give way to allow the other to clear. on my way back someone obviously wasnt paying attention and locked up. luckily i was playing it safe and stopped dead as it was a blind bend allowing him to get past me. its bad enough to have A roads that windy and narrow but the camber doesnt help either. that along with the uneven surface makes some sections very dodgey and it feels like the road is trying to throw you off it. being that high up with soft verges means that an off is gonna hurt when you finally stop rolling
the A84/A85/A82 stirling to fort william is easily the worst road i have ever had the misfortune to tackle and i was told to go that way as it is easier than the A82 from glasgow. i wouldnt like to imagine what that is like if it is worse :open_mouth:

nowt wrong with that doesn´t look tto bad

There are various parts of the continent that are far worse and make the highlands look like a billiard tabe

The Galician part of Spain, various cntral areas of Italy, France around the Alps, Pyrenees for example and we won´t go in to conditions found as one heads further away

drive Scots left or right?

EH?

he is not from this amazing country and is asking what side of the road do we drive on

Oh righto, we drive on the left, preferably on the grass verge
