Waste of time and money doing HGV licence i must be a prat

From what I have seen on here, £30k tramping (class 1) seems to be about right in the Lincs area. If you are used to be home early afternoon though, I doubt if general haulage on days will give you the kind of wage that you are looking for.

And you will do well to get a day job driving artics that get’s you home for 3pm.

Many more experienced drivers on here than me can correct me,but I would think it’s like any other job,if you get experience and a good reputation, the rest should look after itself.
Sometimes when I see jobs where the class 2 hourly rate is on a par with 7.5t it makes me weep, given that the vast majority have spent thousands to get that entitlement(myself included),and weren’t just given it like us oldies were with 7.5t. I’ve also worked out that having ‘extras’ to separate you from the common-or-garden class 2 crowd ups the wages. CPCS,ADR,HIAB,anything you can afford. But it’s all laying out money. I appreciate you’re not a new driver, but in class 2 terms you need to see yourself as starting from the bottom again :sunglasses:

My current job gets me home for 3pm i am not looking to be home for that time. I am looking for a job where you can earn well dont mind hard work tramping E.T.C all i am saying is there are very few descent paid class 2 jobs about even for someone who willing to get stuck in

I would agree with that. Looks like you need your class 1 asap fella.

maybe a change in industry train driver gets £50K+

I don’t believe you can buy a course that’ll get you a job as a train driver though.
I don’t think there are any agencies supplying train drivers either.

Mine gets me home by 7am!

If your main goal is to make cash then don’t drive trucks. Get on the building sites or infrastructure projects.

Boy that got laid off with us now works as gateman on a roads project, £10p.h. for 40 then time and a half O/T, double sundays. Like overtime used to be and still should be, not an extra quid!

Anyway that’s £140 a day for his weekly 12 hr shift, no training costs either!!

I doubt it would be a problem, so long as he starts between midnight and 5am

My current job and my previous one both paid proper overtime rates. So there are still driving jobs to be had like that.

Getting up before 5am?? [zb] that.
