…The truth is the job is not very well paid anymore and people who think it is, by quoting earnings of £700 per week, are forgetting the number of hours they need to work to get that…

You wanna come down to Brum to work mate!

I agree, in the Midlands - both East and West £700 a week is within reach for a sensible amount of hours. Likewise though I can’t pass judgement for sure on exactly what you will earn within other regions as I don’t live there. Same as a shortage, some areas have one, some don’t.

Yup, it does all depend on where you live and who you work for. Two years ago I was working for a firm in Cornwall on about £7.75p an hour and recently around Brum I’ve been working for £10+ an hour. All for class 1 work and on PAYE. My last job was simple trunking at Hermes (Tamworth) on nights at £12 an hour PAYE and I recently had an interview for another trunking job on nights and that will be a salary of £31,500 a year.

Depends what you class as sensible. I top lined at £726 last week for 60 hours. I personally wouldn’t call 60 hours sensible to be honest although it works out to a hell of a lot more than what other companies are paying for similar hours. Over half was spent on break though and I have a number of hobbies which I partake in whilst I’m sat around doing nothing so I don’t mind the hours. It’s only what I’d be doing at home if I had free time so I might as well be at work earning.

50 is more what I’d call sensible and if anyone knows a company paying £700 for 50 hours then please send me an application form :grimacing:

No you’re right 60 isn’t sensible, well certainly not in my definition anyway. 45-50 is and is more in line with what many would consider a standard working week and this is what I was referring to when I said in the Midlands you can earn £700. If you want more money and clearly that would involve putting more hours in then the opportunity is there to get it.
