Co op work is crap as is getting up at 1-2am that’s no life rather tramp
I Work 4 on 2 off nights in the east midlands area at a rate of £17.09 an hour (ADR tanker work)
I do ipaf work on a rigid and earn roughly 29k a year it’s not an easy job but the hours are great I’m home for 2:30 most days… Just got my class 1 looking to try something else and I must say the wages for a class 1 driver are shocking how do you guys put up with it?

It depends where you live. £9 a hour in Birmingham is crap, in Glasgow its decent.
I earn a average hourly rate yet earn more than my Mrs who is a teacher !!

In NI £9hr would be considered decent enough for class1 work.
Most of the bigger outfits here (Monty/Mulgrew/Woodsides etc) are paying less Up til 8hr day then for some OT kicks in

My mate is doing nearly a grand for low 60’s monday to friday on alloga (crazy start times)
Our own night drivers are on 750 ish for approx 50 hours mon/fri.
There are decent jobs around

so is 9 quid an hour acceptable for an experienced class 1 driver? There’s a place in Hull that pays a little less than that for a pallet run. 3 hr drive, half hour tip, wait 3 or 4 hours, half hour reload then 3 hr drive back.
They employ EE, newbies and idiots who can’t get a job elsewhere.
If its the company I think it is I’ve run for the depot on that pallet network that covers North Yorkshire and they pay £10/hr no breaks deducted.

Employed drivers where I am at on agency are on more than that but for 56hr week incl breaks.
Like always, it’s not always about the hourly rate but the whole package & what suits you.
My basic hourly rate might not set the world alight & raise sniggers from the supermarket crowd, but i’m yet to see a supermarket job that would offer me a better take home pay & I never set foot into a truck before the hour of 5am or at weekends & bank holidays. So long as i’m home by 6/7 for tea & a sit down with the Mrs I don’t really care that i’m working more hours.

This^
The supermarket game in Herts/Essex has taken a pounding lately, apart from Welham Green, but you can’t get full time there anymore. Blue chips just don’t allow the hours anymore, and I’d much rather do an extra ten hours a week and an odd night out than be in a truck at 1am on a Sunday. For almost the same money. Hence the general firms along the A13 are littered with ex Tesco Harlow drivers. Supermarkets are for newbies imho
£22.30 an hour■■? Class 2 18t. I still want more

Like i say…there are a few decent numbers about.
I have my class 2 and decided that no body is going to get me driving a truck for less than £10 a hour. I currently drive a 3.5 tonne single car transporter i take home £400 e/w and bring van home and im in Spalding where the wages are crap
Most of the higher pay on this thread is obviously on nights and rightly so. Night work is certainly not for everyone and not everyone can handle doing it for numerous reasons, even shorter term.
I certainly can’t

No, I’m talking about D&P on Sutton Fields. Even my driving instructor warned me about them!

I know drivers who work there, they’re on about 40k per year and say it’s a really good place to work (aren’t they taking on at the moment?) , but because they live in Hull, they spend 5k per year on fuel just getting there!
